Is it possible? I have been working on a game for quite some time now, and it's a space simulator. A space flight simulator with missions and such. Anyways, it's got gravity, or the best that I could get gravity into the game. The orbits are more railed, but manuevers and what not are calculated on the fly. Could ROBLOX handle something like this in a multiplayer setting with a trajectory plotter/planner thing that shows where you are expected to go? It's kind of like Kerbal Space Program, if you're familiar with that game. Here's a trailer of the game, btw.

Whether or not Roblox can handle it depends on how you implement it and how much data must be processed. Presumably, you would use ray casting and Euler's method with rather large increments to facilitate rapid calculation. Try varying the increment size based on the time it takes to calculate everything at a given point. It might be efficient, given a sufficiently high number of bricks in your game, to write your own ray casting which would only check for collisions with planets. It wouldn't even need to find the point of intersection: only that there is one. In the end, however, the best way to know whether it is possible is to try it.

@RaceToTheBottom,
I don't like your bows, The string goes so much further then is possible. It's annoying, I can't play your game with it. :/ |
