Their ally Iran will likely back Syria up. Especially considering all of the U.S. sanctions put on Syria's economy.
But fortunately, Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons yet.
Although, Iran could hurt the U.S. by closing off the Strait of Hormuz, which is a huge provider of American oil. Thereby harming out economy.
but ya, only time will tell i guess

The US could help by supporting the rebels we like. If we go to war with the Syrian gov, it will most-likely hurt us more. Then if our rebels gain Syria, we might ask them to pay us with oil, see?

Oh yeah, and Russia will help Syria. Israel will help the U.S. Hezbollah will likely be a mutual enemy, what with Israel and Hezbollah being enemies.

good point @bunny that's why the international community needs to kind of "pick" a leader that we want for the syrian government so the new one isn't corrupt like assad |

| U.S. sanctions? You mean the U.N. sanctions? The U.S. doesn't chose who to put sanctions on. All they can do is stop trading with them. |

| No, the U.S. has put sanctions against Iran with permission from the UN. It was the U.S. house that passed the bill to slash oil exports. |

| Listen, all we know so far is that we're attacking, and whatever happends, happends. And about that ww3 comment, there has already been a ww3, they just don't announce it. |

I'm not really all too worried about all of this, no matter what the forces alone will overwhelm Syria, and if Russia steps in we'll still overwhelm them. Think about it. The US Marine Corps can deploy to anywhere in the world with in six hours. Then the UK's Military force will be soon behind the US Marine Corps, then the rest of the US Forces. The United States and United Kingdom will have land and sea dominance. They won't want to burn all the fuel on air support, air support will come and go as needed but it won't stick around for long.
Think about all that's going to go in, US, UK, Canada, possibly Australia, and who knows what other country's the United Nations will pull into the mix.
I'm not all too worried.

| There is no question the U.K. and the U.S. would win, but we don't want to spur on a nuclear strike from Iran and upset Russia. |

Well, you never know. Just because they don't announce it does not mean there hasent already been one. And its not really an "attack". More of a punishment for syria. |

| The last time we helped an insurgency it backfired on us and we ended up with another radical Muslim government. We shouldn't be aiding rebels, but that doesn't mean we should be "picking" a leader. Rather instead, the UN or whatever coalition is usurping the Syrian government needs to establish and help maintain a fair and equal democratic process in Syria and keep an eye out for acts of oppression and/or terror. |

| You think you could just assassinate him? Who do you think you are? Just because the U.S. killed Osama, who was surrounded by about five guards, doesn't mean you could get anywhere near Bashar Al-Assad. |

United Nations, NATO.
This will be a fight Syria can't fight.

They're not just gonna put a bullet in his head. I don't recall the US going around assassinating people to solve their problems. |
