Yeah guys, I am going to rant here, that's rare but I just feel like sharing it.
But I don't like it when a parent tries to remove the lifestyle of a child which he/she feels happy with.
Sure, you can have some control of your child when he/she's 6 or whatever. But they grow older, and aware of who they are and what they feel comfortable with. For many, they will want to reflect that with their style.
So what if your daughter/son is in all black and likes Metal music? (Just as example because I'm most familiar with this one.) If that is what he/she wants then it's best to accept it. And no, it isn't always a phase, most of the time it is really becoming a part of his/her life. It's not that this instantly makes him/her do bad things, it's an interest and a lifestyle, not a drawg.
Why take away that what makes your child feel comfortable and happy? Honestly, when I see parents trying to remove the style I can't help but looking them as selfish, thinking only about their own reputation because their alternative child is ''embarrasing'' them.
Hell, I'm no father, and I doubt that I will ever feel as one. But if I do, then I know that my son/daughter won't have to worry about me dissaproving his/her style. Heh, who knows he/she might even be interested in my lifestyle, and we could the Metal road together. :) |

My mom's a hippie, haha. She's perfectly fine with my Metalhead style, she actually likes it. My dad had some more troubles with it, but he also accepts it. |

I agree to an extent, but if my child is walking around with his pants (which he has to hold up to even walk) below his knees and his butt showing, I'm putting a stop to it, not because I'm embarrassed, but because it's ridiculous and I don't feel that it's proper or appropriate. I dress in miss-matched camo and wear it out in public, but at least I don't go around with my boxer shorts/butt showing more than my pants.
I also don't want my child walking into church with black spiked up hair and black "rocker" clothes on, I want him in a respectable outfit in the house of the Lord.
My dad doesn't have to worry about what I wear because I have the common sense God gave a billy goat, and that's enough to not wear my pants around my knees at all times. Sure, sometimes he tells me to put on a different shirt, or a different pair of pants, but it's only because he loves me and doesn't want me to look terrible, even if at the time I want to wear what I have on. |

''Does this happen to you?'' Fortunately, my parents are amongst the more open-minded. |

Yeah, it's a good thing parents won't have to decide for you forever. |

If you love rap music, then there's nobody that should stop you from enjoying it. |

@Support Well, maybe I have different interests then you. I like dubstep, 60's rock, and rap, while you may like the blues, country, and classical. |
