To become a Drill Instructor: You must be no lower than the rank of Corporal: E-4, preferably, all marines who wish to become Drill Instructors are of the rank, Sergeant: E-5, and no higher. Any Corporal who passes drill instructor training will be promoted to Sergeant. Contact a Head Senior Drill Instructor to run you through the Drill Instructor's preparation course; if a Head Senior Drill Instructor believes that you are ready to become a Drill Instructor, then you will start as a Junior Drill Instructor.
Drill Instructor positions: Junior Drill Instructor - The lowest position of any Drill Instructor; a Sergeant: E-5 who assists all Experienced and Senior Drill Instructors with recruit training.
Experienced Drill Instructor - A Sergeant: E-5, or Staff Sergeant: E-6 that assists a Senior Drill Instructor in recruit training. Experienced Drill Instructors are responsible for the majority of recruit training. All Experienced Drill Instructors must have experience as Junior Drill Instructors.
Senior Drill instructor - A Staff Sergeant: E-6, or Gunnery Sergeant: E-7 that has experience as a Junior Drill Instructor, and Experienced Drill Instructor. The Senior Drill Instructor is ultimately responsible for the outcome of the recruits at a basic military training. The Senior Drill Instructor must be able to organize and execute his training plan for recruits effectively, at every basic military training that he attends. |
