Just started, removed the front panel, removed the top and bottom plastic grilles and now im trying to open the case free.
Basicly, the reason i'm taking apart my 360 is so i can fix it. Basicly, it got a Red Ring, and it was because it is over heating. To fix it, I decided that the best thing would be to clean the thing inside AND out, and then it should work fine again, and maybe also re-apply some thermal paste if that's all used up, if that even causes or part of the caused problem. Wish me luck! (I will be doing status in real-time) |

| It got 2 red rings, and i looked online and it said that it had to do with over heating, and man, when i opened this thing, dust literally exploded out of it, so i'm pretty sure that is the problem. |

I found this online "If the problem still exists than it may mean that there's dust inside, which obstructs the circulation of air. I would recommend using a vacuum cleaner in this case. Try to suck out as much dust as possible." Once again, dust CAN be a problem, beacuse heres another quote from the same thread from another website's forum: "2 Red lights - Overheated, let the 360 cool down and put it somewhere where the vent holes aren't blocked" 2 Red lights is what i got. So, it matches. So far, i have cleaned only part of the dust; I got the case open, i'm waiting for my dad so he can find me a T10 Screw Driver so i can get inside the MB and clean the fans. |

I blew out all the dust and now, started it up, it worked perfectly when i was testing it for 5-10 Minutes. I'm tomorrow going to play a game with the console and see how it reacts then. But you know, when it was at the home screen, it worked perfectly. Changes: It was A LOT quieter and before i did the blowing I noticed that the fan before was bringing out only hot air the WHOLE time, even if it sat all night. Now when it sits for even 10 minutes it cools down perfectly just like if it were new and now when you start it up instead of warm-burning air coming out of the thing FIRST thing, it brings out suttle, can't say cold but chilly kind of air (Maybe 30-40F kind of air) . And I noticed after 10 minutes the temp of the fan went up by 10-20F like it's suppose to. The Heatsink was very hot, but my dad said that was normal. It's only the fans that are not suppose to be very hot. And they weren't so I suppose that is a good sign. More information about the console will be posted tomorrow as well as some more tests. |

It's confirmed. It's fixed. Blowing into the console actually worked! The game I played to test it (Forza 4) ran really well, like if it were a new console! I noticed when playing video games on the console the fans sped up as well as the heatsinks. I also noticed the fans increased by 20-30F when playing the game, but I paused every 5 minutes and it seemed like after a while it was keeping the same temp. That temp was about 70-80F, witch in my opinion, is normal. I'm right about to re-assemble it, and reassembling it is incredibly easy. It's like a snap-on model kit. There are only 6 screws on the whole thing, and the rest is clips. Here i go! |
