I play piano, and I think it is a little harder than most other instruments just because of the more hand coordination.
But, piano will probably provide a better musical background for you than another instrument would.
Even if you ultimately do want to take guitar, a little piano first would be very beneficial.

my own personal advice:
if youre into classical and concert band-ish kind of stuff, piano, its really fun, and helps you grasp a lot of theory, chords, etc, plus you can play almost anything
guitar is easier, can take it to a lot of places, and solos always make you look cool lol just start with an electric, i made the mistake of starting with an acoustic and got so frustrated because acoustic is all chords and the strings are tighter, etc, i just couldnt figure it out, until i played electric and was riffin on all of my favorite music, and i can go back and play the acoustic too |

Yeah, Dwo is right.
Again, even if you don't want it to be your main instrument, piano is good for background and early learning.

if you want to learn both: learn piano first, and then guitar it will help
if you want to learn one: learn guitar get a simple electric guitar don't buy something expensive, you can even get a knock-off, wait until you're good and you don't need an amp because you're not playing to crowds, but get distortion pedals
lessons will vary in price a lot, but a lot of different people play the instruments, you could probably find a friend or family member, or one of their contacts, and get help for free or for a cheap price but practice every day on your own, buy books to help you out and don't worry that you suck to begin with, you'll notice improvement in just a few weeks, even if you don't become a pro in that time

Well, I've been doing piano for 9 years and I'm considered advanced intermediary (or something like that). It really depends on how long you spend doing it daily.
Also, yes. You could get a music scholarship for playing an instrument.
