What do you think of this idea?

(Note: this is NOT the full info post. I'm just giving out the basics at the moment.)

This game will be a free-for-all FPS. Now don't think of generic shooters like CoD, this game will be very similar to Quake 3. So that means there will be one starting gun, high walkspeed, and lots of guns and pickups to find around the map.

In terms of gameplay, there won't be many things different from Quake, besides many more guns (don't worry, it won't just be variations of existing guns) and the addition of speed-belt conveyor-ramp thingys.

The majority of the originality comes from the style. It is quite hard to describe, but the main thing is that it is a sci-fi type shooter, with weapons and locales that I hope will be like nothing you've ever seen before.
Also there will be TONS of lasers flying around the map at any given time, giving it a very chaotic feel.

Sounds just like any other FPS, be it Paintball, CoR, or Laser Tag.

Those games don't have jumppads, teleports, pickups, high walkspeed, or the frantic style it'll have.

But I would love any suggestions that will help make it more original.

Battlefield has the high walkspeed, frantic and intense gameplay. The other things don't make massive differences to gameplay.

To make it more original, think of something original, not another basic FPS.

A few things:

1) You can't really compare Battlefield to Quake. Not that Battlefield is bad, it's just the two games are very different.

2) Those other things DO make a big difference in gameplay.

3) The walkspeed will be far higher than it is in Battlefield.

4) If you think this is my only idea, you are very wrong. This is my most unoriginal idea, but it is also the easiest to script (I've got to start somewhere, right?).

Sounds very Unique, but ROBLOX already created Quake 3 (I believe it was 3, and it was an Event if you didn't know).

No idea what Quake is, I'm talking about DeadzoneZackZak's Battlefield. And yeah, if there were teleporters in a map, it would make the map different, but you can add different maps. It doesn't much effect the core of the game, just the map.

Yeah, I know they remade Quake. I'm making this because 1) I might be able to slightly improve Quake, 2) making this could help me learn how to script so I can make better games in the future, and 3) I think it would look awesome with laser bolts flying around the map.

OK, now I see why this was hard to explain. Look up Quake 3 gameplay videos on Youtube so we can be on the same page.

Ah, this is a great idea. There are many FPS games that have sprouted on the fame side of ROBLOX, but if you design high-tech different weapons, the community will be eating right out of your hands.

One suggestion, make the gun bullets bounce off the walls once, giving the people another chance to kill someone.

Overall, I like the idea. Good luck, and I hope you are successful with your project(s).

Nice idea matt! I probably will add that not as a universal mechanic, but for one gun that will have like 2-3 ricochets.


Thanks for your feedback everyone! I'm starting the core mechanics right now, and will post the full info thread when I feel it's far enough into development. It might take a while as I'm a Lua n00b, but I'll work as hard as I can. Thanks again!

Love the FFA type game mode idea. I actually tried making a similarish game but it was more like battlefield but FFA. I think you should go for it.
