Roblox is a great sandbox game. It has very few limits to what is potentially capable of (see - Dungeon Delvers), and it's easy to get started if you're willing to give it a try. But you see the amazing places and know that you won't be able to make those types of places that well that early. But that's okay, you know that, you'll settle for some success.

You make a pretty decent place, above average, and then you end up getting just as much recognition as if you had made a terrible place. And this is where the core problem is - Mid level users, ones that can make better places than the average trash, but can't quite match the skill of the best place makers, get no reward for making a superior place.

The reason I think of for this is the lack of notability - you could make a pretty fun game, but the only way it's going to get even a dozen visits you didn't solicit yourself is if it is graphically appealing, which not everyone can manage; or already have a popular place, in which case you're not the one with the problem here.

This is exactly why the automated contest system fell flat on its face - places that played well but didn't have a nice (and usually fake) thumbnail weren't voted for and became unpopular which made the places not give users more percentage which made nobody want to vote for the place. The idea of the contest system was a marginal step in the right direction, but quickly tripped over itself.

The way to fix this, I feel, is a revamped contest system. There would be three categories - Most Time Spent Playing, Most Votes from Players, and Administrator's Choice. Getting a good rating in any of these three would result in being given a reward, including being added to a leaderboard, which would track who has won the most and by how much of a gap between others; and having a permanent record of how well you have done in contests.

The first category is based off of how much time was spent actively playing by all players - and when I say actively playing, I mean moving around, interacting with the enviroment, not just going afk. There would be ways around this, but for the sake of the idea, that will be all I go into.

The second category is based off of how many people that played the game voted for it against other places. This one is pretty self explanatory, and solves the problem of "best thumbnail wins".

The third category is a special category. Administrators would, at their leisure (which is why they stopped doing the old school style of contests from back in 07 - it just wasn't feasible), play though places privately (so that lackluster places would not get undeserved spikes in popularity), and ones that they consider to be pretty good would be chosen by them. This would be announced on the contests page, and would play a part in being on the leaderboard.

The exact prizes would be up to the admins, but it has to be something that matters. It can't just be a throwaway hat that nobody would wear half the time. I, personally, would go with the top place makers being given an extra read-only place slot so that they don't have to get rid of what they made. They would be able to edit the description to provide commentary, and hide it if they wished, but they could not edit it to use as a free place slot.

I think that by adding this system, the above average, but not quite elite place makers would be able to get more notability and earn the prestige they deserve.

I agree with all this. Except for one thing. There needs to be more categories. Think about it. More categories more recognition.

Not necessarily - if there's too many, then nobody will pay attention to the individual categories, thus nobody will pay attention to the places, defeating the purpose of the contests. The three categories allow for three imporant avenues of acheiving success in terms of making places - having a strong following, having a large following, and having big name followers.

Well, there's no sense in having more categories for the sake of having more categories. What would they be, and what purpose would they serve?

Thinking about the leaderboard part of the suggestion, maybe there should be some grander goal that players can work towards by doing well in contests, accumulating points on the leaderboard, and getting an even better reward at the end of a predetermined period of time?

Since popular people will still be able to enter competitions:

You cannot enter if:
-You have been on the front page (ever)
You have over 100,000 place views (on one place)
-You have been banned in the past day (Spammers)
Your account was made 1 month ago (Newbies & quality games)
-You're not email verified (Spammers)
You're under 10/13 (Lets face it they aren't contributing much)
-One of your place has been content deleted within 1 month (Bad user)
Have over 10,000 thumbs down and does not have more thumbs up (Bad place)
-Your place has comments turned off (Sign of bad place)

What about if there are 'leagues'

You start at league 101, Basics.
You can work your way up depending on if you are in the top 100 of the contest.

Excuse me, but I'm 13 and I contribute a lot. So don't say things that might not be true, also
