English translation of current Swiss anthem:
When the morning skies grow red, and over us their radiance shed Thou, O Lord, appeareth in their light when the alps glow bright with splendor, pray to God, to Him surrender for you feel and understand that He dwelleth in this land. In the sunset Thou art night and beyond the starry sky Thou, O loving father, ever near, when to Heaven we are departing joy and bliss Thou’lt be imparting for we feel and understand that Thou dwellest in this land.
The Swiss government says that's gotta go:
The new text is to include values enshrined in the Swiss constitution, such as democracy and solidarity. “The real problem is above all the text,” [project leader Lukas] Niederberger said. He is in the Swiss Society for Public Utility (SGG), the competition organizer. The SGG, founded in 1810, seeks to promote Swiss values and has previously launched social and cultural initiatives. “Officially the anthem is a psalm, a prayer, but of course we have an open society, religiously neutral. We have atheists, no single god, so this anthem is a difficulty,” he explained by phone.
So, guys! Early 2014. New, secular Swiss anthem. |

| Tappier, would you like it if your national anthem said things like "God doesn't exist" or "Christianity is fake"? |

| How is it more offensive then implying God exists in a national anthem? Is it because only your feelings count and not the feelings of polytheists or atheists...? |

So only the majority counts? Okay, good idea! Let's kill all the atheists, Muslims, black people, Asian people, elderly people, etc.! They don't count. And it's not like atheists are the majority in China or Norway.
What if the Chinese national anthem said, "God doesn't exist"? Keep in mind, the majority of Chinese people are atheistic. |

You just said atheists should not be considered at all. Just because there aren't that many of them. Well, tell you what, it's not all just about the majority. What if your national anthem praised white people because the black people and Asian people don't matter? Because they're just a minority?
Well? Would it be okay if the Chinese anthem said, "God doesn't exist"? |

| It's not about feelings. It's about the legality of separation of church and state. |

| And Atheism isn't a "small" minority in Switzerland. Over 20% isn't "small". |

| 20% isn't much, Israel is 50% Atheist, and Denmark is nearly 80% Atheist. |

| I like this actually religion in the government in any form is torrid. A secular government is the best way to be honest. |

"Saying the word "God" in for the anthem, should not be considered a violation of Church and State."
It wasn't necessarily because of the word "God" (even though that's a contributing factor), but also
"pray to God"
Prayer is a religious action
"when to Heaven we are departing"
Heaven is a religious idea

@sinii
The anthem didn't even say "God exists" in it. Your statement is invalid. |

No but it assumes a god exists multiple times so therefore states that a god exists |

| How is it sad? It just shows how many young Israeli's are liberal and overwhelmingly leaning towards modernism and science, however the Orthodox really do control Israel which causes them to move backwards. |

"Israel is 50% atheist"
Aren't Jews supposed to believe in God? |

Fine. What if the anthem said, "Don't pray to God," and "Heaven is not waiting for us," etc.? |
