I see a lot of groups that post their websites and whatever, and they aren't spam or anything, so I don't see why they shouldn't be able to post it. What I think is that we should be able to post any link, but it has to be approved by mods first, if it isn't already one of the allowed ones.

It's not a viable option. Think about it. Imagine how many people would want to post a none vetted URL, and now imagine the amount of immature individuals who would then waste the time of moderators with vile links? Why should anyone be subjected to that, or even be subjected to clicking through a heap of links which could lead to any numbers of things.
