See, Eminem is actually really good at storytelling and all of that, but everyone copies his style so it seems overused.

Having an alter-ego? Eminem started that.
Including skits in an album? Eminem started that.
The whole "I don't care" attitude? Eminem started that.

He was also the first to lay all of his issues on the table so people pretty much couldn't attack him. The only way they could get to him was by going off on his daughter, which just added more to his music when he made a song right back at them with more intensity.

And who else do you know got sued by an ex-wife because their song was so explicit and offensive? Granted, Kim is crazy and just wanted Eminem's money and to get back at him, but most people don't have a song with the material to even wave a flag at that kind of intensity.

"Rap is not music"

Correct.
It's better than music.
It's taking music to another level.

Making music and instrumentals, and adding well thought out poetry to create a more impressive work of art.

@ret

Not necessarily.
Not all raps are fast.

And plus, raps have instrumentals. Without it, it's just a spoken word (still better than most modern music). Most people who listen to classical, or techno, or instrument solos, or anything like that, are just listening to rap music without the poetry part.

I agree.

I think he has the best combination of lyrical genius and technicality.

You, dear fellow, are contradicting yourself. First you say "rap is not music", now you say, "rap is fast-paced poetry" music is poetry. Good job, mate!

definition of poetry: Poetry (from the Greek poiesis — ποίησις — meaning a "making", seen also in such terms as "hemopoiesis"; more narrowly, the making of poetry) is a form of literary art which uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language—such as phonaesthetics, sound symbolism, and metre—to evoke meanings in addition to, or in place of, the prosaic ostensible meaning.

Poetry has a long history, dating back to the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh. Early poems evolved from folk songs such as the Chinese Shijing, or from a need to retell oral epics, as with the Sanskrit Vedas, Zoroastrian Gathas, and the Homeric epics, the Iliad and the Odyssey. Ancient attempts to define poetry, such as Aristotle's Poetics, focused on the uses of speech in rhetoric, drama, song and comedy. Later attempts concentrated on features such as repetition, verse form and rhyme, and emphasized the aesthetics which distinguish poetry from more objectively-informative, prosaic forms of writing. From the mid-20th century, poetry has sometimes been more generally regarded as a fundamental creative act employing language.

Poetry uses forms and conventions to suggest differential interpretation to words, or to evoke emotive responses. Devices such as assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. The use of ambiguity, symbolism, irony and other stylistic elements of poetic diction often leaves a poem open to multiple interpretations. Similarly, metaphor, simile and metonymy[4] create a resonance between otherwise disparate images—a layering of meanings, forming connections previously not perceived. Kindred forms of resonance may exist, between individual verses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm.

Some poetry types are specific to particular cultures and genres and respond to characteristics of the language in which the poet writes. Readers accustomed to identifying poetry with Dante, Goethe, Mickiewicz and Rumi may think of it as written in lines based on rhyme and regular meter; there are, however, traditions, such as Biblical poetry, that use other means to create rhythm and euphony. Much modern poetry reflects a critique of poetic tradition, playing with and testing, among other things, the principle of euphony itself, sometimes altogether forgoing rhyme or set rhythm. In today's increasingly globalized world, poets often adapt forms, styles and techniques from diverse cultures and languages.

@Duck
You are in such denial over the fact rap is poetry! And in that superfluous article you copy and pasted, it stated poetry is used to create emotive responses. Something music and rap does. Rap uses end ryhme most of the time, and so does other forms of music.
XD Lmfao! i think you name suits you, by the way!

definition of music: Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. Its common elements are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek μουσική (mousike; "art of the Muses").

The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to personal interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within the arts, music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art. It may also be divided among art music and folk music. There is also a strong connection between music and mathematics. Music may be played and heard live, may be part of a dramatic work or film, or may be recorded.

To many people in many cultures, music is an important part of their way of life. Ancient Greek and Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound. Musicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez summarizes the relativist, post-modern viewpoint: "The border between music and noise is always culturally defined—which implies that, even within a single society, this border does not always pass through the same place; in short, there is rarely a consensus ... By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be.

Maybe if you weren't such a dolt, you would realize that there's a difference between rap and poetry, idiot. Just because both has rhymes doesn't make them the same.
