Did you know that Microsoft gives all newly-discovered exploits to federal agencies for a grace period before patching them?
if you have any questions about Linux, cryptography, and general computer privacy feel free to ask them |

god no
i used linux for a while for the sake of experimentation, it is not for anyone and kinda bad for the generic public due to a lot of ui and complications for those who do not have a firm grasp or time / patience to deal with an os for hours before getting it a way you like it without it being bad.
a lot of people wont and dont like many distros, maybe ubuntu /mint just for a bit if they are technologically inclined, but the rest just isnt for the general public
if you like computers and like winning small victories while having a new and different os then try linux
if you like playing games dont |

@Kleme
It sounds like you just tried a bad distro, or maybe one that's too complicated for a new Linux user.
Gnome 3, Unity, and KDE are easy to use and good looking user interfaces that come on the most popular Linux distros, and they're all highly customizable if you want to customize them.
Most popular Linux distros are incredibly easy to use for anybody. I installed Mint on my 11 y/o sister's computer and she knows how to use it now, despite knowing next to nothing about technology. |

You don't need to get a new computer, you just need to download a new OS. |

@Kleme
>Arch
WAYYYY too advanced for a new user.
>Ubuntu
I don't like Ubuntu too much, but I don't see why it wouldn't be as good as Windows for the general public.
>Mint
Just Ubuntu with some extra software pretty much. |

i understood it and riced it in a basic format using aw.som or a tiling window manager, i enjoyed the troubleshooting and basic victories, but it took far too long and was a major inconvenience, i do not believe that if someone wants to use basic functions on a computer they should have to literally in depth learn for different layers.
i do hope that more and more support is attached to linux, it is wonderful and would promote competitions |

Arch is meant for people who want to take a long time to set up their stuff and completely customize it, and is meant for advanced Linux users. |

hm ill try to draw something
basic functions
mac 8/10
windows 7 7-8/10
starter linux programs 6-9/10
moderate functions
mac 6/10
windows 7-8/10
linux programs 4-8/10
more complex functions
mac lol/10
windows 4-6/10
linux 1-8/10
it depends on user but someone has to be willing to learn if they want to go past using it for email and such |

@Kleme
But that's the thing
Anybody that needs to use it for more than emails and such isn't going to have a hard time learning it and probably won't mind learning it |
