I'm quite new to the forums. While I know I'll probably be getting a lot of rude/mean replies rambling on about how people think that this device is such a horrible system, I'm still deciding to post this. The 3DS is a console made by Nintendo that was released in March of 2011, as most of you probably know. While the hardware on the 3DS is definitely below the PC specifications for ROBLOX, there may just be some hope for a port. (Probably not for a while) I've done some research on the tech specs inside of the 3DS, and here's a summary: At the moment, the 3DS' insides are significantly lower than the specs needed to play ROBLOX on a Windows PC. Here are some things that'd need some work: 1. The RAM; At 128 MB RAM, you won't be going too far with multitasking. Windows PCs use a lot more RAM and processing power just with the OS than the 3DS though. This would probably be the main problem when playing ROBLOX games. You do need to consider that the 3DS is running on 128 MB of FCRAM. While DRAM comes in greater quantity than SRAM, SRAM is faster. (128 MB of SRAM would be better than 128 MB of DRAM) FCRAM, though, is like a modified version of SRAM that uses less power and can be stored in higher density, (really doesn't matter at this point) and is even faster than SRAM. The iPhone 4 runs on 512 MB DRAM. Direct comparisons are scarce on the internet, but I'd believe you could get at least 1/3 more power out of 128 FCRAM than 128 DRAM (yeah, it's not that much) The 3DS also doesn't use as much RAM as iPhones or PCs do in the backround when games are launched, one thing to note. Sorry to be cramming all of the things I could into this topic, but it obviously needs the most help. ROBLOX optimizations will be helping with performance, at BLOXCon Chicago, they announced that ROBLOX will have a new way of rendering, similar to how Minecraft renders. David Baszucki also noted that we could hope for support on the iPod Touch 4th generation at BLOXCon due to this change. 2. The GPU/CPU: The 3DS is powered by a PICA200 chip and a dual core ARM11 MPCore processor. If you go to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A-xxUyJvQQ you'll see some pretty impressive footage of what this chipset can do. I'm not sure what resolution this was at, but I'm pretty sure that it's not the 800x240/400x240 that the 3DS renders things at. Plus, this may or may not be the full power of the PICA200 chip. The ARM11 chip does all of the work (or most of it) so that the GPU doesn't need to focus on the system, i.e. multitasking, internet browser, friends list/online status. Considering that ROBLOX is an online game, the ability to press the home button taking you to the home screen could be disabled, helping performance. MK7 performs at 60 FPS in 3D mode online (against 7 other players). With ROBLOX, the 3D mode could be disabled. Resident Evil 4 plays at 30 FPS with 3D on and 60 with it off. Turning off 3D mode could definitely enhance performance considering that ROBLOX is a pretty taxing game. Honestly, I don't think that processing power will be too much of a problem. You do need to remember that the processors are working on two screens simultaneously. (ROBLOX could always use about 25% or so of the ARM11 CPU by disabling the aforementioned features) They could also scale down the graphics like ROBLOX did for the iPhones and iPads. (take a look at ROBLOX on a 1920x1080 monitor, then look at it on an iPad 2) With the special version of the PICA200 chip that Nintendo uses, it supports up to DirectX 10 (otherwise it could only support up to DirectX 8, ouch) 3. Updates: I'm not completely sure how ROBLOX's updating system works. I do, however, know that ROBLOX updates it's code very often (about every week) and that it has other types of updates even more frequently than that. Maybe updates would need to be given through the eShop (which would be very annoying having to update every week through) or could be given through the app. It may not be as bad as I'd imagine, considering that updating the ROBLOX app on an iPhone 3GS isn't so terribly irritating (kidding, it 's not that bad :P) Another solution would be to have an automatic update option, giving the option to have the app check for updates through Spotpass. 4. Diversity: Nintendo is a gaming company, that's pretty obvious. ROBLOX games vary from 1 brick to 1 million. (just a wild guess) I'm not sure if Nintendo would make ROBLOX choose what games could and could not be on the handheld or what. I know Apple is different (I'm not sure, maybe something about licensing?) when it comes to these kinds of things. While having a limited amount of games on the 3DS may prove to be limiting ROBLOX, and I mean REALLY limiting it, it would be free, wouldn't it? I'm not sure how Nintendo licenses games, I'd need to look that up, but maybe they have a different set of rules for free games (hoping that ROBLOX would be free on the Nintendo 3DS, making money from Builders Club sales) In retrospect (I still haven't posted this xD) I should have seperated these two topics, diversity and licensing/price. Overall, I know that it would be a lot of work when it comes to optimization, coding, controls, licensing and the such, but think of the few millions of 3DS owners who don't know what ROBLOX is, and the large amount of profit that ROBLOX Corp could make from this. (The 3DS has a LOT of buyers, and it's only growing) If I'm forgetting anything (4 AM where I am), I'll be sure to reply to the thread, if you have any questions or counterarguments, I'm up for it. |

@mqa I could ask the same about iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, which all have capabilities of supporting ROBLOX. Keep your personal opinion out of this.
If the 3DS has enough power to support ROBLOX, and the Corp. thinks they can get enough funding to produce, and then enough to maintain it, then I say go for it. It'll make this game a true cross-platform game. |

TL;DR.
Judging on the title this is a very crap idea.
I don't think Roblox branch from online and mobile.

| I don't appreciate the fact that I took a long time to gather up this information, and some of you are saying that It's too long to read. This is long because it is detailed, without detail I wouldn't have posted this. It disappoints me how some ROBLOXians are too lazy to read some posts that really could be read in less than 5 minutes. Please don't judge a book by its cover and take five minutes to go over things. I don't want replies that don't have any value, like tl;dr, or replies that are based off of not even reading the post. Please try to remember that. |

| Guvon, I tried to make sense out of that sentence, maybe you said it wrong? "I don't think ROBLOX branch from online and mobile." I understand what each of those words meant, but I don't understand what you're trying to say. Try rephrasing it. |

| Woa, someone that writes an essay! Awesome idea, I don't have a 3DS, but my brother does. The 3DS should have enough power for this to work! Great Idea! |
