reality check
a simple one is to count your fingers. if something goes horribly wrong (i.e. your finger flies off), you're dreaming.
do it in real life until it becomes a large habit and you start doing it in your dreams. |

Apparently a better way is to press a finger against your other hands palm.
Apparently it would go straight through it in dreamland :P |

For me it took two weeks, you should do reality checks like counting the fingers on your hands and you have to make it a habit and do it without thinking about it when you're awake eventually when you're in a dream you'll do it and something will be wrong like too many fingers so you know you're in a dream and can now do whatever you want.
