@4lucky
why was the ps3 split 256/256 and not 384/128?
On the other hand, I'm left-handed. |

| the PS3 actually did need more ram because in game chat, which was available in the 360, couldn't be done in the PS3 for RAM reasons |

| As for why they had a combined total of 512 MB, it was probably cost and games not using much RAM at the time. Obviously this time MS and Sony have just gone all out to make sure they are future-proofed |

"512mb is a very low amount now. However, the average desktop from back then had half that or at least that much."
i had a pc with 1gb of ram bought in 2006, like everyone else
cpu from 2002 and ddr2 ram
one 1gb stick

1 GB costed less than £10 to the public
Remember that Sony is a company that buys directly from the producers so it would be even cheaper anyway |

the cpu was crap but it had 1gb of ram
1gb was the lowest amount that i've seen, others had a pentium d, core 2 duo, etc

| But developers heavily disliked the 7th gen's architecture generally. |

| Back in 2005 buying RAM cost waaaay more than £10 per GB. Also bear in mind the xbox 360 and PS3 did not use standard RAM like what was available to the public. The Xbox 360 uses GDDR3 RAM and the PS3 uses 256MB of GDDR3 VRAM and 256MB of XDR RAM clocked at 3.2GHz, which is the same as the CPU speed and would have been insanely expensive. |
