| Hmm... half support. It's a good idea, but not that important. I like it though. |

| Good ideas, but you know you can insert a custom Skybox right? |

| But my reasoning behind this is mainly to have an actual moving moon that changes in the night sky, and stars that actually turn. Although skyboxes are suitable for static situations, if you want a nice changing sky it doesn't cut the cheese. |

Read over this, here's my counterpoints as to why I think that these effects won't be added soon.
1. The clouds would still require volumetric type rendering to look good in any way, and with the things people would try to shoehorn them into, they wouldn't be the best idea as suggested. Instead, I would suggest a cloud object, similar to the sky object. We could have much more customization, and if we didn't want clouds at all, just don't add the object to the game.
Options for said cloud object would include what altitude the clouds would be at, whether they're cirrus or stratus, and based on altitude, render them properly. Choose wind direction (there's a separate idea altogether, wind.) for clouds that would move, choose wind speed, and cloud density/coverage. Would replace the current fog controls, and fog would be set as a type of cloud, and positioned at low altitude. It would have to act on the skybox too, but that shouldn't be too hard to shoehorn into ogre.
2. Much can be done in this area with scripting, but I agree, you can't get it looking really nice really easily. Maybe someone could code a freemodel time script/plugin that'd do this?
3. GREAT IDEA! MUST IMPLEMENT! I'd implement this as an option under lighting, rather than as a separate object, as this is lighting related.
4. Possible but difficult with skyboxes. It's pretty easy to shoehorn in, but most games set at night leave the time set to 00:00:00 or whatever, and don't realistically simulate the passage of time. This would have to be disconnectable, if it were. Option Stars Rotate Follows Time y/n.
5. Similar to the fog rendering in the cloud object I suggested above, except it's a separate dust object and renders more coarse particles.
TL;DR I took the time to write this post, you have the time to read it. |

Thank you for actually reading! It drives me crazy that people just skip over it because its a well explained idea.
1: I do agree that it isn't something that is really needed. You can take a regular part and do this, but I thought It was an idea ROBLOX should look at.
2: My point was that, even if there was a free model for it, you would still be stuck without the customization. At the very least it should just be entirely rebuilt to look pretty.
4: Its very, very, very, very not easy at all. In-fact I would argue its impossible with skyboxes. In theory its possible, but actually getting it to work isn't really easy, or practical. And my idea for the system would be the sky turns based on the time. So if you have a static time, such as 00:00:00 or 1,2,3,4 the sky wouldn't turn. It would only turn as time moves forward. If you sped up time, it would move faster. I also mentioned in my post it would be optional.
5: I personally think fog/dust should be regional NOT over the whole world. |
