You should get a topic. Some sort of emotion you're feeling, an event that's happened, etc.In the case of comical lyrics, you might want to make a skeleton of a comedy act written out so you know what you want to say.
Next, play around until you find a certain syllabic feel that you enjoy and has a nice rhythm to it. From there, I like to start out with trying to make the best lines I can. After you get a few really good lines down, write down all of the words you can that rhyme with the words that you rhymed, then try to use as many of those that you can in building up to those diamonds in the sand you just created.
A few things to note about rhyming: - Rhyming does not have to occur just at the end of the lines. I can't stress this enough, rhyming inside of a line is almost as important as rhyming at the end of the line. Internal rhyme makes your raps SO MUCH better. You could rap three words that rhyme in one line and one of those words is the last word. You could drop a word in the middle of each line that rhyme together. You could do different rhyme scheme INSIDE the lines, like ABAB, AABB, AAAB, whatever. - Make sure you don't try too hard to rhyme. The biggest mistake I see with amateur artist's lyrics is that they want so bad for the thing to rhyme and to use that rhyme, that the line won't even make sense. Line doesn't make sense with that rhyme? Search for different words that could rhyme. This might mean changing the line entirely so it works. It may even mean tearing apart a rhyme scheme and redoing it. Whatever you do, make sure it makes sense and it doesn't look like you tried too hard to make that particular word rhyme. A helpful tip for this? Try to make the more obscure word appear in the first bar, then rhyme something else to it. That sometimes works for me, but only when I have to. - Don't be afraid to use slant rhymes. A good slant rhyme: "loud / now." A bad slant rhyme: "throat / support." Don't be afraid to use them, but don't be Lil Wayne either. - Reintroducing a rhyme sound from earlier is a great idea. Just make sure you don't use the same words, or your work will look sloppy and will show little effort.
IF YOU DECIDE TO ADD A SONG STRUCTURE AND CHORUS TO YOUR SPOKEN WORD: As far as writing a chorus for your song goes, there are a few ways you can go about it: 1) Start with writing a generic chorus, and writing around it (common but effective) 2) Write out your rap, and form the chorus around it (riskier, but if done right makes a better product) 3) Have a chorus that leaves people wondering what it means, until after the final verse when it makes sense (my personal favorite) (a really good example of this is a song by Kinetics called "Sign Language." I HIGHLY suggest you check it out, it's impressive). 4) Design a chorus that only need appear before the start of the song, and at the end. This type of chorus is generally used to exemplify a lyricist's talent. A good example of this is "Play for Keeps" by B.o.B (also highly suggest you check it out, it's a really good example of an impressive rhyme scheme and effective slant rhymes).
And as long as I'm suggesting songs to listen to, go give "Lose Yourself" by Eminem another listen. This song is so misunderstood. Pay close attention to all of the internal rhyme in the first verse. It's amazing.
That's the basics to it. Any questions, feel free to ask. If you have something already and want to improve it, post it below and I'll give you some tips. |

And I've never taken a song writing class.
I figure this stuff out on my own from analyzing artists and writing on my own.
It's my hobby. |

I've never heard of j cole. Enlighten me. To be honest, I stay up to date with very few "popular" artists (Jay-Z, Eminem, Macklemore, Childish Gambino, Kanye West (though I haven't even heard Yeezus yet), 50 Cent to an extent, and D12). Most of the artists I listen to are underground people you've probably never heard of. Like people that if you google their alias, you still would have to dig until like the 50th page of results before you found anything on topic. |

"r u black"
No sir. Is Eminem black? Is Macklemore black? Is Kinetics black? Is Chris Webby black? Is Dylan Owen black? Is B. Reith Black? Is Tom Pepe black? I could go on with white rappers, but I think I made my point. |

| A lot of his early songs were crap like most of mainstream songs, but his new album has a lot of songs that remind me of underground. Look up his song Born Sinner or Let Nas Down |

I have no heard of K-Rino.
There have been three people that actually gotten in under Eminem's skin as far as dissing him, and "K-Rino" isn't one of them. |
