In the ruined world of Neocide, Duel Monsters wasn't just a game; it was the only way to survive. The reason for all of this was because of a tournament, called the Forces of Heart Tournament. In it, during the Championship Round, a un-summoned Monster appeared. It speaked, saying "The Forces... are awakened." As it spoke, the Stadium started collapsing as the other buildings also collapsed. Soon, Neocide was nothing but rubble and burning Duel Cards. The Champion and the Challenger were gone. The only things remaining were they're Decks and Duel Disks.
Several years later, the land was semi-restored. But a new threat emerged: Force of Dark, the Monster that appeared at the Tournament. Along with power-crazed duelists, it consumed the Light of each duelist: his/her deck. It was restored, but darkened. It changed the Duelist's heart. It made him/her a Nerco Card. They eventually formed a army of Necro Cards. Most feared them, while others fought back, forming the United Decks Army.
The Ultimate Showdown of Light and Dark has begun.
