**ALL CHARACTERS PORTRAYED IN THIS STORY ARE PURELY FICTIONAL. ANY RESEMBLANCE TO ANY PERSON, LIVING OR DEAD, IS PURELY COINCIDENTAL**

PROLOGUE: A Vanishing Act

"Alright, everybody, take your seats. It's time to start the meeting," said WIJ Marshal Owen over the High Command Conference Room microphone. As the group shuffled to their seats, he nervously glanced at one of the two seats behind him. Hoping that no one would take notice of the obvious problem, he continued on. "As you all are aware, we have been detecting hostile intent from various clans in the western region-"

"Where's Chairman Bob?" asked Brigadier June. "Shouldn't he be here?"

As a group, the High Command stared at Marshal Owen, demanding an answer. Sweating profusely, he wiped his face with a soaked towel on the podium next to him and thirstily took a long gulp of water.

"He's vanished," Owen replied at length. "We don't know how or why, but he vanished."

The group stared at Owen in shock. With war on the horizon, they had hardly expected that their Chairman would vanish.

Owen continued, "We cannot afford to worry about that, though. We have a war approaching us. I have already prepped a squad of the six most elite Shock Troopers that we have to hunt for the Chairman. I am certain they will find him."

Still very nervous, although somewhat calmed by Owen's reassurance, the group set to work.

For the very next morning, a war would dawn that would change the face of the world.

Forever.

CHAPTER 1: Squad 42

"GET IT MOVING, TROOPERS! There's a MANHUNT ON, and we're the ONLY ONES HUNTING!" shouted Captain Marx.

Squad 42, the Shock Trooper Squad composed of the six most elite WIJians there are, was now located in orbit around Equeria, the last place where Chairman Bob was sighted.

"Jenkins, get your orbital drop gear on and stop playing with your cards. We're going to war, not to a pony's tea party," ordered Marx. Captain Marx was a 42-year-old veteran of the Fifth Interstellar War, and as such, had developed a hard outer shell. Although strict and highly disciplined, he was truly a good commander and the best man for the job.

The Squad, commanded by Captain Marx, contained: Shock Troopers Alonzo Jenkins, Maria Elbert, and Jack Herkness, Recon Trooper Julio Rodriguez, Honor Guard Marco Rick, and, of course, Captain Stanley Riglin Marx.

The squad entered the orbital drop cannon in groups of two and prepared for the descent. Jenkins was paired with Marx, Maria with Jack, and Julio was with Marco.

"Thank god I'm not with Marx. Poor Jenkins," remarked Maria to Jack.

"I HEARD THAT, SOLDIER!" yelled Marx, as Maria flinched. The technical specialist of the mission, Rodriguez, was in the last pod in the cannon, working the cannon's controls.

"Could your laptops be any smaller, dude? You're, like, all over me, bro," Marco said. Julio, busy with his work, said nothing.

"YOU ALMOST DONE, RODRIGUEZ?" Marx shouted to the back of the cannon to Julio. "WE'RE ON A TIGHT SCHEDULE HERE!"

"You don't have to yell, Captain. There's a communication device in the top right part of your seat back. I can hear you fine," Julio said calmly. "And yes, I am done. We're dropping in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..."

The cannon launched the three pods down at the planet below. Captain Marx's voice was clearly audible over the communicom. "YEEEEEEEHHHAAAAWWWWWWWWWWW!"

Julio came over the communications. "We're approaching the atmosphere. Entry will be extremely violent and possibly excruciatingly painful. Don't touch any metal."

"But the seats are made of metal, you MORON!" Maria yelled back.

"Oops," replied Julio. "Well, just...don't yell too loud."

After a turbulence-filled descent, the squad slowly pulled themselves out of the smoking orbital drop pods. Angrily they looked at Julio and then at the lack of scorch marks on his pant seat.

"How did you not get scorched?" Maria demanded.

"I kind of installed an insulation unit in my seat. Did you guys want one? You should've told me."

Maria stalked off with the tents to set up camp. Jack and Marco followed her. Marx, avoiding looking at Julio, walked up to Alonzo. "Well? Allons-y, Alonzo. We've got a war to fight in the morning. Come whenever you're done doing what you're doing, Julio."

And so, Julio was left alone in the dark forest with three smoking orbital drop pods.

He would soon have even less.

CHAPTER 2: Unit 13

Meanwhile, back in Indigo II, all was calm as the sun rose. However, soon all hell would break loose.

Corporal Vinny was on patrol at Indigo II, when all of a sudden he noticed a strange sight. Off in the distance, he saw what appeared to be a dusty image of the sun rising. Thinking at first it was nothing, he continued to patrol. However, it suddenly occurred to him that the image of the sun should not be dusty.

Grabbing a pair of binoculars from the Armory, he peered through at the dust cloud. After zooming in, he could see clearly, now, what they were.

ATC's. Thousands of them, maybe even tens of thousands. All headed straight for Indigo II.

Immediately he ran to the alarm and pulled it.

Back at WIJ HQ, the alarm was received without enthusiasm. Marshal Owen was sitting at his desk with his head in his arms trying to think what to do when the alarm went off. Immediately he looked up, picked up the phone, and dialed 1-3.

He spoke into the phone: "Code: Delta Nexus 1-3 Echo. Request presence." He hung up immediately.

Then, turning around, he manipulated the holographic troop map and sent three regiments of WIJ Soldiers to Indigo II. Turning back to his desk, he thought on what could've brought this storm upon WIJ. Who could've wanted to do this to the WIJ Corporation? What did we ever do to anybody!

As he thought, it came to his mind that there was only one person in the entire galaxy who could've done all this.

Filled with resolve and determination to protect the precious Corporation, he picked up his phone and began to dial.

"Allons-y, Alonzo," this saying was used in Dr Who, mate. Kinda takes away from originality I mean, sure, it was funny but if you watch Dr Who then you know the joke and it takes away from the enjoyment of the story.

I feel that with what was going on you could've given a bit more detail than what was given, but that's an issue with all major writers so I'm not to worried about that.

As for the storyline itself, I like it but I felt you added to many jokes and not enough action/focus on the story. I felt that you were to worried about making sure your audience wouldn't fall asleep reading boring talk about the storyline that you failed to focus on the storyline itself.

CHAPTER 3: Forests of Equeria

Julio Rodriguez was left all alone in a huge forest in the middle of Equeria with only three smoking orbital drop pods. He knew he couldn't possibly rejoin the others, so he wandered on into the forest, thinking about what would happen to WIJ.

After a while, he came upon a small clearing with a small stream running through the middle. He stopped to take a drink and suddenly felt a sharp blow to his head.

----------

Meanwhile, Squad 42 was pitching their tents. As they prepared to go to sleep, Maria offered to take the first watch.

The others drifted off into sleep while Maria pulled out her holophone and scrolled through pictures of her family. Jack got up, walked over, and sat down next to her.

"How?" he asked.

She sniffed and replied, "The virus. It wiped out all of Ceneria in one day."

"You go to sleep, Maria. I'll take the watch," Jack offered. She thanked him and immediately went to sleep.

----------

After they all had woken up in the morning and had their fill of breakfast, they packed up the tents and started moving.

The Marshal had given them ten days on Equeria before the entire planet would be incinerated to protect Corporation secrets. It was a mechanism the Chairman himself had put in, and there was no way of stopping it.

They soon came upon the same clearing that Julio had come upon. They saw his form lying on the ground with an obvious injury to the head. After checking his pulse, Maria, the physician of the group, confirmed he was dead.

All of a sudden, enemies materialized. "Open fire!" was Captain Marx's command.

Within minutes, the entire Pegis Tribe had been slaughtered. The group, ignoring Julio's body, filled their water containers and continued walking.

----------

Meanwhile, at WIJ HQ, Owen was seated in a War Meeting Room when his phone rang. Excusing himself, he walked out of the room to pick it up.

The voice at the other end of the line was exactly who he needed to speak to.

After speaking for a few minutes, he hung up the phone. Looking around, he stealthily crept back to his office without being sighted.

Once there, he turned on his terminal and got to work.

@Dark

I used the phrase because it translates into English as exactly what I wanted Marx to say.

As for the storyline, this is only the beginning.

CHAPTER 4: The Seven of Thirteen

At Indigo II, however, things weren't going so well.

The enemies, which had turned out to be practically every clan in existence, had set up shop a few miles out by the sea and appeared to be preparing their troops.

Back at Indigo II, three regiments of WIJ Troopers: Regiments, 36, 691, and 487 were powering their weapons up for the fight that was to come. All of a sudden, an Operative rushed into the Armory with a report of a "large, black orbital pod" descending from the sky.

The group went outside and saw the Unit 13 Orbital Drop Pod crashed on the roof of the Armory.

Unit 13 is the most elite Shadow Unit in existence. Composed of Commander Julia Lizzmond, Richard Parker, Kenneth Mann, Patricia Mann, Herbert Myles, Kyle Stover, and Gysho Jones, they are the only paid Shadow Unit.

Ignoring the Troopers who stared at them in awe and shock, they marched in behind Commander Lizzmond straight up to Sergeant William von Scheel, the Sergeant-in-charge of the defense of Indigo II.

"Hello, Sergeant, my name is Commander Julia Lizzmond. We have been summoned here by Marshal Owen of the WIJ Corporation. Now, let's see what we've been called here to fight, eh?"

William led Lizzmond to the top of the gate so she could get a glimpse of the vast raider setup. She had expected to see maybe a few hundred or a thousand raiders, but this - THIS - was ridiculous.

However, not one to back down from a challenge, Lizzmond ordered her soldiers to get ready. "We've got a war coming, Sergeant. Are you ready?"

"I was born ready, ma'am," replied Sergeant von Scheel.

----------

But deep in the recesses of space, an old evil was awakening.

An evil so old, its name had been forgotten over the centuries. It had been locked away ages ago, but now it was awakening.

And only one person could control it.

CHAPTER 5: Dislexia City

Within a few days, Squad 42 had come upon the only form of civilization on Planet Equeria: Dislexia City. They found the entrance heavily guarded by soldiers wearing dark robes with their heads covered. The only weapons these hooded figures seemed to carry was a sword.

"We wanna enter into this here city. Who're you two?" Captain Marx marched up and demanded.

The hooded figures, however, remained silent. They simply stepped aside and allowed the group entrance into the city, which was as silent as a tomb, empty of people, and bone dry.

"I've heard stories about Dislexia City," Jack whispered to Maria. "They say the entire city is covered in water fixtures. 'The City of Water', they called it." He looked around at the city. "Or at least, it used to be."

The group continued marching towards what appeared to be a palace of some sort. They planned to inquire their about their lost Chairman Bob.

Once they arrived at the palace, Captain Marx marched right up to the huge double doors and knocked with a large gold knocker. The doors swung open silently, revealing an inky blackness within. Marx marched in while the rest of the Squad remained outside, watching carefully.

A few seconds later, Marx's dead body was flung outside the doors and they slammed shut. Maria immediately knelt down to check for a cause of death. She stood up looking bewildered.

"Well?" questioned Jack. "What killed him?"

She replied shakily, "Nothing. There's no cause of death at all... He just sort of died."

"In any case, we should give him a proper burial," Alonzo said. The others agreed, and they carefully lifted up the Captain's body and carried him outside the city.

Once they'd laid him to rest, Marco stepped up and spoke. "Alright, guys. Since our Captain is now dead, I am assuming command of this mission as the highest rank present."

"Oi!" yelled Jack, stepping up to challenge Marco. "You're just a Sergeant. I'm a Colonel. I demand control of this mission. You may be a superior Shock Trooper, but you are not superior in rank to me."

The two glared at each other. Finally Marco stepped down.

"Alright," Jack spoke. "We need to keep moving. I have a feeling that whatever is inside that palace does not have our Chairman. Now, this may be the only form of civilization on the planet, but there was an ancient race that used to live on top of Mount Repolo. It's a two-day hike from here. Perhaps we'll find the Chairman imprisoned there."

"And if we don't?" asked Marco. "We've only got three more days. If the Chairman isn't there, we won't have time to correct ourselves before this entire planet is incinerated and we lose a Chairman."

"We have no other leads, Marco," Jack replied calmly. "This is our only hope at finding the Chairman. Now, let's move."

----------

Back in Marshal Owen's office, he received the news of Captain Marx's death coolly. He realized that the end of days was soon coming, and nothing could stop it. There was a prophecy, however...but it could not be true. "Two hearts joined at the end of days shall open the vortex and bring bright life." Slowly realization dawned on Owen.

Frantically he scrambled through the Shock Trooper Squad Records. Finally he found Squad 42. He gazed intently at the names of two of the members of the Squad. He knew he must prevent the plan from going awry. Suddenly he felt something.

"All is going according to plan. However, I fear that the prophecy may come to pass," he spoke.

"Do not let it happen. We have worked long for this victory. The end must come." With these words, the presence vanished, and Owen's head cleared. He looked down at his hands, and then at the computer.

Then he began to type.

CHAPTER 6: The Fall of Indigo

At Indigo, the red sun was slowly dawning on a day that would soon turn to hell.

Kenneth and Patricia Mann were sitting on top of the Indigo II gate watching the sun rise, sharing a romantic moment. They'd been married for 17 years while still serving in Unit 13.

But then they noticed that the army was moving. Immediately they headed down to notify Commander Lizzmond.

"Commander, we've got incoming!" shouted Kenneth and Patricia as they raced down the steps to the Armory.

"Sergeant, I want you and your two best pilots on the hovercraft. Richard, Herbert, get on the turrets. Kenneth, Patricia, and Kyle, you're with me. Gysho...try not to die."

The hovercraft took off and took to the skies, challenging all enemy aircraft. Soon the skies were clear with enemy aircraft retreating.

"HAH! TAKE THAT, YA STUPID PUNKS!" came Corporal Mizzengeif's voice over the communicom.

"That was just the first wave, Corporal," Sergeant von Scheel replied calmly. "Let's land these things so they don't run out of juice."

The hovercraft touched down and Sergeant von Scheel, Corporal Mizzengeif, and Operative Yuxi joined the ground battle.

Meanwhile, Richard and Herbert were having a hell of a time on the turrets. Richard had been shooting at ground targets while Herbert assisted the hovercraft in the air.

When von Scheel, Mizzengeif, and Yuxi joined Kenneth, Patricia, Kyle, and Lizzmond, the turrets both began to focus on ground targets. After approximately three hours of heavy ground fighting, they had repelled the enemies to the arch. At that point, they turned and ran.

"Heh. That'll teach 'em to mess with Unit 13," was Commander Lizzmond's remark. As she turned around to march back to the base, she froze as if shot. Sergeant von Scheel, immediately noticing the bullet wound in her back, helped her to the ground.

"Tell Kenneth and Patricia they need to take over. I've lived a good life. Out of respawns now... We almost had infinite that one time, you know? We almost touched the stars," she spoke. Sergeant von Scheel cradled her head in his lap as she spoke to him of the various planets Unit 13 had been to and all of their experiences. He heard about all the times Gysho had died doing stupid things. He heard about Lizzmond's family and how the Virus of Light had taken her loved ones from her. Twice. And then, finally, she closed her eyes for the last time. He slowly placed her head on the ground as it began to snow.

"Shouldn't we bury her, sir?" questioned Operative Yuxi.

"The snow will bury her. We need to get back to the base before it buries us, too," he replied as he took off at a brisk walk, the snow and wind covering the tears in his eyes.

CHAPTER 7: Mount Repolo

With only 24 hours left on the clock, Squad 42 arrived at the summit of Mount Repolo. They peered into a lone, inky black cave.

"We've got no other option than to enter. The Chairman could be inside. Come on, guys," ordered Jack. The group marched into the cave. They walked for many hours with little to no light. Finally they reached a larger cave, which was well-lit with torches hanging on the wall. They were so deep in, the cave smelled like rotting wood and bat droppings.

Suddenly Jack realized: rotten wood. He immediately grabbed one of the torches and swept around the walls of the cavern until he located a large, wooden door. Putting down the torch, he pulled as hard as he can. The door open with a groan.

Inside he saw a white walkway with no doors or windows. In fact, the only thing on the walls or floor were keypads, spaced at equivalent intervals.

"What do you guys think this is?" he asked of the group, now collected behind him.

"It's obviously a prison. Can't you tell, Colonel? They keypads obviously open and close the cells," Marco sarcastically remarked, walking in. He had barely walked five feet when the roof opened up, a turret appeared, and shot him where he stood.

The entire group stared in shock. "We need to find out a way to disable those security turrets before we can go in. I have this feeling the Chairman is here," Jack remarked.

So with only 19 hours left on the clock, the team set to work. They determined that the security turrets only activated when an object was five feet inside the walkway. The nearest pad was four and a half feet a way.

It would be hard to get that close without triggering the turret, so they chose Maria, the smallest of the group. She slowly walked to the keypad, hoping not to trip a motion sensor. She then entered in a long sequence of strings which Alonzo, a former computer engineer, had given her. Immediately the security turrets lowered and turned off, going limp.

The group proceeded carefully to the end of the hall, where they found one lone, exquisitely crafted keypad waiting for them. They knew only the most important prisoner could be imprisoned there, and they could only think of one person that important.

They'd just found the Chairman.

17 hours.

CHAPTER 8: Frying Pan to the Fire

The next morning, the raiders attacked again. Without a leader to hold them together, Unit 13 and the WIJ Troopers were nothing against the massive onslaught.

For the first time, they noticed what their enemies were; where they came from. Or at least, they tried. The uniforms and insignia were unlike anything they had ever seen before. Earlier that day, while reporting in the death of Commander Lizzmond, Sergeant von Scheel had received news of the Chairman's disappearance. He was informed that the Chairman had been found by Squad 42 at Mount Repolo and needed help extracting the Chairman from prison.

At long last, the raiders armed the nuclear bomb at Indigo. The defenders had no choice of disarming it.

Fleeing to the roof, they piled into hovercraft and evacuated to Mount Repolo.

----------

2 hours later, the group arrived. They walked down the cave passageway into the prison.

They met up with Squad 42, and Operative Yuxi, an officially designated computer specialist, began working on the codes.

About 3 hours later, he was finally done. The door opened, and there they found Chairman Bob, sitting in a chair, asleep. Colonel Jack went to his side and shook him awake. "Chairman? Chairman, we're here for you. We've come to free you," he said to the sleeping Chairman.

The Chairman awoke with a start. Grinning broadly, he pronounced loudly, "WIJIANS! HELLO MY WIJIANS! IT IS SO WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU AGAIN. I KNEW YOU WOULD COME FOR ME! HAH! UNTIE ME AT ONCE!"

The group, startled by the obvious, went to work freeing the Chairman from his chair. Once he'd gotten up, he entered a separate room to change back into his flashy rainbow uniform.

"LET'S GO, KIDS!" he yelled as he walked out. The group followed him, rather surprised to find what they expected to be a calm, composed, and a very powerful leader.

They now had to get the Chairman back to WIJ HQ and repel an all-out invasion from an enemy they don't even know.

12 hours.

CHAPTER 9: The End of Days

By the time they got back to WIJ HQ an hour later, the battle had already begun.

Pencil pushers, Troopers, Shock Troopers, and High Command members alike were co-operating to defend the HQ. However, Marshal Owen was nowhere in sight.

No longer acting like a madman, Chairman Bob jumped off the hovercraft first and rushed into the building to find his Marshal, obviously angry. The rest of the group set up positions on the 23rd floor as they watched the soldiers moving up the building. The teleporters had been turned off, so the enemies were forced to use the stairs. Stairs which hadn't been maintained in over a thousand years.

Turning on the security devices, they watched, laughing, as wave after wave of soldiers made a wrong step and fell 22 floors down.

But finally, they managed their way up to the 23rd floor. Chairman Bob immediately materialized behind them, shot three rockets, and collapsed the entire East Wing of WIJ HQ.

"That should keep them for some time. Jack, Maria, you need to come with me. The rest of you stay here. Keep a watch out for Zylarian invaders," he ordered, now completely calm.

As Jack and Maria followed him, Jack questioned, "How did you manage to teleport? The teleporters are down?"

"The first thing you should've learned when you joined the High Command was that we do what we need to do to protect the Corporation. If that means having secret orbital teleporters, then so be it."

The Chairman stopped randomly, pressed a button on his holophone, and the group was beamed up to the 200th floor, where they were shocked to see Marshal Owen tied up in a chair, grinning like a madman.

"Chairman, why have you tied up the Marshal?" asked Maria in shock.

"He's the one who's been collaborating with Zylok. I should've known...you were born in that region of the galaxy, weren't you?" demanded Bob. Owen was silent, but continued to grin.

"But...Zylok?" questioned Jack. "We defeated Zylok in the First Great Interstellar War, right?"

"We imprisoned him and he made us a prophecy. A prophecy for which I have called you to here today," replied Chairman Bob. "The prophecy goes as such: 'Two hearts joined at the end of days shall open the vortex and bring bright life.'"

"But what does it mean?" Maria asked, long out of patience. "Why do you need us? What vortex? What does 'bright life' mean?"

"Patience, Maria. I will explain everything," he calmly responded. "A long time ago, almost three million years, now, an ancient military known as the SSCORP fought the largest war ever known against a beast known as Zylok. He had control of the entire universe, and the SSCORP rebelled. They defeated him and locked him in time; in what you might call a 'time vortex'. This is the vortex the prophecy mentions. As he was imprisoned, Zylok also imprisoned the Beings of Light, who were the original guardians of the universe. This left only Shadows: hence, the Shadow Units. However, over the millions of years, the Shadow Units did become good. Unfortunately, if the prophecy is to be fulfilled, we must release the Beings of Light, which will kill every Shadow Unit that is currently in existence."

Completely confused, Maria asked, "So what do you need us for?"

"Well, isn't it obvious? The 200th floor. What department works here?" asked Chairman Bob with a smile.

Slowly, realization dawned on Jack's face. "The Apocalypse Department. If there is ever an end of days, it's handled here."

"Yes. And two hearts joined?" Bob smiled at the two of them as they both realized what was to happen. "We've been watching you two. Unfortunately for stupid old me, I told Owen about everything. I thought I could trust him," he said, glaring over his shoulder at Owen, still grinning like a madman.

The two lovers embraced. "We thought no one would ever find out," Jack admitted to the Chairman. "We never thought that, you know, it would work."

"Well, it better work. The universe depends on it," the Chairman spoke as he joined Colonel Jack Herkness and Sergeant Maria Elbert in marriage.

CHAPTER 10: Parallel Victories

"You may kiss the bride."

As their lips touched, the world began to change. A massive hole appeared about fifty feet from the wreckage of the East Wing, and out of it swarmed the Beings of Light...and Zylok.

"HA HA! I AM FREE AGAIN!" yelled Owen in the voice of Zylok. "You puny mortals couldn't help but fulfill my prophecy. AND NOW, I AM FREE!" Owen slumped over, dead.

"Come on. We need to go. The fight's just begun," ordered the Chairman. As the group rushed into the teleporters and flew down, the Beings of Light were unleashing hell on the Zylarian Army, beings made of pure darkness.

The remnants of the WIJ Corporation pulled back slowly as they watched the Light take on Zylok, having defeated his army.

"They need me...they can't do this without me. My father, known as the Silent Sword, sacrificed himself in this same way to save the universe three million years ago. Now I must do the same. Jack, you're taking my place, you hear?"

"Aye, sir. I will do the best I can to fill your shoes," Jack said proudly to the Chairman as he drew an ancient white sword from thin air and jumped 100 feet into the vortex.

They watched as the Chairman of the WIJ Corporation took on the devil himself. Knowing he couldn't win, Bob intended to lure Zylok into the vortex, through the sword back out, and have the vortex lock himself, Zylok, and the Beings of Light up again in time.

He succeeded. And with the last of his strength, he yelled, "STAY STRONG, WIJIANS! Let my death be the fire that lights your path to being the masters of the universe. DO NOT FAIL ME!"

And so, the second Chairman of the WIJ Corporation vanished into time and the vortex closed.

"I think it's clear what we must do now," Jack spoke to the assembled WIJians.

"What?" the group questioned of him.

"I think we've got a wedding to celebrate."
