If you been living under a rock, in the United States, the Defence of Marriage Act was struck down. Now married people with the same gender in the United States will have equal benefits to married people with the opposite genders. This is a big turn for LGBT activists and the people against it. If this keeps up the United States would make marriage with same gender legal nation-wide.

Do you agree with the rejection of DOMA? Explain.

I'm pretty sad that we're stepping away from the traditional family values and moving towards more liberal things. I'm not to happy about all these new "rights" and "freedoms", but I will support it, as long as I'm not affected in any way.

When the government accepted interracial marriage, was it going away from 'traditional family values?'

I haven't been raised in a society where blacks were considered primitive or sub-human, so I can't really tell. But I feel that you need a mother and father to help a child develop. Of course, maybe 50 years later, this kind of thing will be generally accepted, and perhaps we'll be moving towards something even more liberal.

I was raised by a single father and I turned out fine so far.

It's most likely a singular case. I've seen a few statistics which have shown how families with a single parent don't turn out so well. I'll try to dig them out.

Having two fathers would mean more support than just a single parent. A single parent has to work harder to provide because there is no money to share with a spouse. And you would mostly have to get raised by babysitters most of your life because your single parent would be out working for you.

I feel that both a mother and father have valuable lessons and skills to teach to a child.

And which lessons are only exclusive to males? To females?

My mother is there to console me and care for me when times are tough. My father is there to support me and push me forward. I feel this is the same for most people.

Those are essentially the same, and even if it weren't, a male can console someone and care for them when times are tough. And a female can support someone and push them forward. What stops them from doing that?

Fumetsu, what political parties do you support? Or are you just saying you don't care when you really do because you do not like it?

I honestly don't care. Where I am from and where I am going it's not even going to be a topic of discussion for probably 50 more years until we destroy ourselves.

Let the US do what it wants.

@EarthyBilly234: I agree. The mother and father are both great at different things.

RubiksCubix, what is stopping a male from having the mother role or a female for having father role?

Multiple things:

1.)Psychology:
It is scientifically proven that, in development, the male brain is seared down the middle with a sort of acid, splitting the bonds of the left and right brain. As a result, the male brain redevelops, making him much more left brained, and think far differently than a female. Certain parts of the male and female psychology are good for different things.

2.)Development:
There are certain subjects that it would be extremely hard for say--a mother to explain to a son, or a father to explain to a daughter. Certain things are best learned male-to-male or female-to-female.

3.)Role Models:
A child BEST develops with a role model. A boy most of the time needs a male role model, and a girl needs a female role model. It doesn't mean they can't develop fine without one, but a boy with no father, for example, is far more LIKELY (doesn't mean it will happen) to pick a bad role model.

An example from my own personal experience: I had a friend who only got to see his dad once a week, for an hour, and was beat by his step-dad. As a result, he wanted to join a gang when he grew up. The poor guy was really sweet, and the best friend I could have asked for, but he may just grow up to be a criminal one day. Why? Because he didn't have a role model to look up to.

Oh poopoo.

I can show you a video of a sg couple raising 5 kids just fine if you want.

I honestly am just sick of the crusading for them as if it is the most pressing issue in the world right now.

Let them be married and be over with it.

I honestly didn't say I disagreed. I am glad it was overturned. I am just also stating the other side of things-- the possible consequences of allowing this.

Male and female don't have exclusive tasks. Whilst they may be generally good at something, this is a gross generalisation.

Gender is not a hard line as some people think it is.

And if you like, I can show you links to studies showing that children growing up with homosexual parents have the exact same (if not better) chances at succeeding than heterosexual parents.

I didn't disagree, but for the record, the law affects everyone, so we are forced to generalize.
