Introduction

There were a lot of new parts and features ROBLOX has made for users to build with. ROBLOX added special bricks like truss, corner wedges, regular wedges, and way more. But I think there's one thing that ROBLOX building is missing out on: rope suspension. I'm going to give a detailed story and description on why I think ROBLOX needs this.

The Tech Demo

About a year ago, ROBLOX released water terrain. Before that, like always, they made a tech demo for the cool new feature they would be coming out with. The video that shows the tech demo is still up and running on YouTube on roblox's channel. The video is called "Water, Buoyancy and Ropes - Tech Demo". Based off of the title, we can already see this video will be showing more than just simple water terrain. In this video, it doesn't really talk about the rope suspension. The video shows a bridge with rope suspension. The bridge isn't connected by any motors or hinges. There seems to be some yellow line that passes through all the bricks that the bridge consists of. Erik Cassel takes out his rocket launcher and shoots the middle of the bridge. Both sides of the bridge come crashing down, but both sides are still connected to the rope. If you haven't seen the video yet, I highly recommend you watch it. The rope suspension in the video is so smoothly put together!

The Use

So now we both know what I'm talking about and what it's suppose to look like. But how can this be used? In western games, cowboys can use a rope tool to tie people up. In adventure games, three dudes can be connected to one rope while climbing a mountain, so if one falls down by accident, he's safe. In naval games, a ship will always be anchored no matter how big the water terrain currents are. I can go on and on and on about the possibilities. Ropes holding balloons. Ropes holding dead guys in horror games. Ropes making ladders for helicopters. Do you know how many Cut the Ropes there will be?!?

Helping Builders

The idea of a very thin and flexible part flapping around in a user's game is amazing! I'm coming up with so many game ideas in my head right now just typing up this thread! (But I'm already working on a more important game. c:) Builders can not only use ropes with the basic techniques I just stated, but they can get creative and turn the ropes into masterpieces! You can recolor the ropes to white to make silk from bugs or floss for teeth. You can make the ropes black or gray for your video game's wires. You can make shoelaces, necklaces, weird bead doorways from the 1970's, grass, and more! Dude, you could even make the rope completely transparent in case you want to make tripwire for medieval games!

Conclusion

Okay, I had so many more building ideas. (Can I just say one more? Improving the bomb tool so that the rope will singe. Cool, eh? c:) I can't go on because I've already typed up four paragraphs, and this one will be my fifth. Anyway, if you want to see the rope suspension in action if you didn't see it yet, go check it out on ROBLOX's official YouTube channel: roblox. The video is called "Water, Buoyancy and Ropes - Tech Demo". Fast forward to the ropes if you want. Oh man! I forgot to mention something in the Tech Demo paragraph! The "sea monsters" apparently have ropes too since their body parts twist so smoothly. Anyway, I think ropes can be helpful for all kinds of games of all kinds of genres. Ropes should be able to have special properties like BrickColor, Transparency, and Reflectance. I had some other properties in mind like Wind. Y'know... which way does the rope sway? Does it sway at all? Stuff like that. You could anchor it, but that ruins all the fun. CanCollide is vital because in some video games, you can walk through ropes because they're so thin.

P.S.

I hope you take this into consideration and post your opinions in your replies. Admins, please try to think this over and implement ropes into games. Thank you. c:

I support this cool idea,

A question though,

What would it look like? A mesh like a real rope?

@voidlance; If you check out the video, you'll see what it looks like, but if you choose not to, I'd say it looks like a very thin brick with a cylinder mesh.

@xtremehero10; It's just one thin brick. I can't imagine how hard it would be making a brick twist and stuff.

You said you'd write for the RBLXDev blog, and then quit because of a single comment... seriously.

Support. Also we could have more smooth ragdolls with these. Example, tiny ropes connect bones(bricks) together.

@chicka123; Omg, yes! We could make the ropes invisible so it won't be obvious ropes are there!
