Level Names and Descriptions (SPOILERS. DUH):
Chapter 1: Inbound
"This train is...inbound from...Sector C Dormatories" ~ Tram System
You get off a tram, and continue into work. It appears you are late.
Chapter 2: Anamalous Materials
"They are waiting for you in the test chamber." ~ Scientist "This probably won't be a problem...Probably, but there is a small discrepincy" ~ Scientist
You check into the front desk, and learn there was a system crash earlier. You get into your HEV Suit and go into the Anamalous Materials Laboratories.
Chapter 3: Unforseen Consequences
"Prepare for Unforseen Consequences." ~ The G-Man
Doctor Moz, and many other scientists say there are many malfunctions, but Moz says everything will be fine, despite the malfunctions. You go into the Anamalous Materials Chamber. Someone flips a switch, and a laser comes on. You are instructed to go onto a catwalk, and turn the Anti-Mass Spectrometre to 80%. You do so. There are many lasers going everywhere. (ENTER THE TELEPORTER)
*MAJOR SPOILER START* You have opened a dimensional rift, and strange beings from other dimensions come and attack the facility. The dimensional rift needs to be closed somehow or another. *MAJOR SPOILER END*
Doctor Moz tells you to go to the surface, alone, to get help. Though reluctant, you do so. You see dead bodies, and creatures called HeadCrabs and HeadCrab Zombies. You get the feeling you've done something terribly wrong. You make your way to the Office Complex
Chapter 4: Office Complex
"The Military is coming to save us!" ~ Scientist
You get into the office complex. It appears the military is coming to save you. You keep working up to the surface.
Chapter 5: "We've Got Hostiles!"
"We've got hostiles!" ~ HECU Marine "None of these dumb scientists have even put up a fight" ~ HECU Marine
You hear that the military rescue team has already come to save you. Then you witness a marine killing one of your fellow scientists. You then learn that the 'rescue team' is killing everyone associated with the experiment - including you.
You finally reach the surface. It is under total military control, and is under a military bombardment to boot. You must go back under ground to avoid it. You hear scientists talk about the rest of the Lambda Team (the team you were on) are trying to close the dimensional rift that you opened. But they are on the other side of the Research Facilities, in the Lambda Complex. And there are many Marines between you and the Lambda Complex. You start on your way.
Chapter 6: Blast Pit "Someone needs to turn on the power...and it isn't going to be me" ~ Scientist On the way to the Lambda Complex, you enter a portion of Black Mesa that is widely sealed off, that date back to its days as a missile complex. There is old machinery, and this area is used as dumping grounds for toxic waste, made by other parts of the facility, and because of that, Marines haven't yet got a good foothold.
Chapter 7: Power Up "Turn on the generator...then you can take the monorail out of here..." ~ Dying Security Guard You come across the remains of what appears to be an epic battle between man and creature in Sector E Materials Transport. There are Marine corpses piled high, and a corpse of some unidentifiable creature. You find a dying security guard. He says that if you restore the power, you can use the monorail to get to the surface.
Chapter 8: On a Rail "One thing I know for sure...{Gordon Freeman}'s been killing my buddies..." ~ HECU Marine As you ride to the surface, you hear from another security guard that you need to launch a sattelite, which is used to observe the effects of the Resonance Cascade. You also learn the Marines true hatred for you. They set up sniper posistions around Black Mesa, sentry guns, manned turret posistions, ect. It appears someone has already sent the rocket into orbit. You go back underground.
Chapter 9: Apprehension "Where are we taking this Freeman guy, anyways?" ~ HECU Marine 1 "Topside for questioning" ~ HECU Marine 2 "What the hell for? We got him, let's kill him." ~ HECU Marine 1 "What if they find the body?" ~HECU Marine 2 "Body? What Body?" ~HECU Marine 1 *Laughter* ~ Both Marines You find a new, terrifying and effecient new enemy, the Black Ops crew. They aren't only killing scientists, they're killing Marines.
*BLACK OPS BACKSTORY* After the failure of the initial Marine cleanup project, the Black Ops team were sent in to destroy the entire Facility. They have a ThermoNuclear device and intend to blow it up with that. Adrian Shepard (HECU) sees them set up the bomb during the events of the chapters 13 and 14, "Forget about Freeman" and Lambda Core, respectively. After the events of Half Life, the Black Ops activate the bomb, but Adrian defuses it, and later the G-Man activates the bomb, destroying Black Mesa. *BLACK OPS BACKSTORY COMPLETE*
Towards the end of the chapter, you are knocked out by the Marines, and, against the Marines orders, they place you in a trash compactor.
Chapter 10: Residue Processing After escaping the trash compactor, you make your way through the part of Black Mesa that is used for processing waste. He works his way out.
Chapter 11: Questionable Ethics You end up in a secret part of the facility, the BioChemical Labs. Here you learn that scientists have gathered specimen from the borderworld "Xen" for a long time before the Resonance Cascade, and they were collecting specimen you haven't even seen before.
Chapter 12: Surface Tension You reach the surface, once more. It is a complete warzone. HECU Marines, Aliens, and Black Mesa personel are all locked in combat, and the Aliens are winning. After battling across the next part of Black Mesa, your adventure is nearing the end.
Chapter 13: "Forget About Freeman!" "Forget about Freeman! We're abandoning the base! If you have any last bomb targets, mark them on the Tactical Map, otherwise, get the hell out of there!"
The Marines know they are outnumbered and outgunned by the Xen aliens, and having continually failed to capture you, they evacuate the facility. The area is under another bombardment, so you must get back under ground.
Chapter 14: Lambda Complex You finally make it to the Lambda Complex, but to your suprise, and disdain, instead of the entire complex being secure, only a small portion is, with other scientists and security guards stretched all over the complex. Most of the complex is overrun by Xenian Aliens, since the HECU are gone. He must flood the reactors to access the core, and a team of scientists are waiting for him at the tip of the reactor. You must now navigate through the Lambda Core. Along the way you learn that a large entity is controlling the invasion, and must teleport to Xen to stop it. You finally make it to the Lambda team, they are at a secure location, just outside the teleporter. You learn this is where they developed the portal technology that allowed scientists to bring back Xen specimen to the BioChemical Labs and that the satellite that was launched couldn't reverse the effects of the resonance cascade because the powerful being on the other side of the portal kept it open, and you must kill it to keep the Xen Aliens from taking over completely.
Before you teleport to Xen, Alien Controllers are sent to stop you, along with other Xenian creatures. The scientists activate the teleporter, and you teleport to Xen.

| "Cave Johnson, new owner and CEO of Black Mesa. That's right, you've been bought. First order of business, we're renaming you under the Aperture brand. I'm leaning towards Blappeture Mesa. Marketing boys think something else. So: Blappeture it is. Next, they tell me you people are conducting some anomalous materials research that could result in a resonance cascade. So I'm shutting that down before you idiots end the world. A resonance cascade! You're supposed to be scientists. Use some common sense." |
