So when I get home from my grandmothers house, the first thing I do is check the ants, and one of the ant containers had tunnels. I thought, where their workers? There where 3 queens a month ago that I put in the container. So than I noticed a bright red ant, smaller than queen, coming out and digging. And the moment I saw it, I knew I had workers. So the first thing I did was made sugar water, put a cotton ball in the tank, and put a insect in there too, a small tiny dead queen. The ants where having a hard time getting through, so I picked up a needle and made a little entrance. After, 2 or 1 worker would come out and then run back in the nest. After 10-15 minutes of this, I put the cotton ball much closer. First, 2 workers noticed, they ran back in the nest, than next thing I see, 20 WORKERS come out and completely cover the cotton ball, sucking the sugar water out. They haven't touched the dead queen yet. This is a solenopsis invicta colony (AKA Red imported fire ant). |
