Police Brutality? By: UppwardChryslo
Over the last few days, I interviewed regular citizens, visitors, Carabinieri, and ITAF. I asked all of them the question:
"Do you believe the Carabinieri treats citizens/visitors fairly?"
Below are five responses when I asked random Italians or Visitors that question. -------------------- Me: Do you believe Carabinieri treats citizens/visitors fairly?
Anonymous Carabinieri Officer: Yes.
Me: Why?
Anonymous Carabinieri Officer: We try our hardest every day, and even though we are accused of doing these wrongdoings, they are false. -------------------- Me: Do you believe Carabinieri treats citizens/visitors fairly?
ITAF Atrumshuki: No. Mainly the fact that they think they are all criminals.
Me: What do you think is the main problem with Carabinieri?
ITAF Atrumshuki: They abuse weapons. They think they can just arrest everyone. Taze for no reason. I used to be in Carabinieri. My friend even said to me "Let's go. It's corrupt." -------------------- Me: Do you believe Carabinieri treats citizens/visitors fairly?
Anonymous Visitor: Not much.
Me: Why?
Anonymous Visitor: Well, when visitors are walking around they just shoot them and kill them. Basically for no reason at all. -------------------- Me: Do you believe Carabinieri treats citizens/visitors fairly?
Anonymous Italian: I believe they don't.
Me: Why?
Anonymous Italian: Because I get tazed if I walk away from something random. I got arrested once just because I was walking the streets alone. They said I looked "suspicious". -------------------- Me: Do you believe Carabinieri treats citizens/visitors fairly?
Anonymous Carabinieri Officer: That varies. For example: If we have a USM in the server, we show no mercy. If we have a civilian in the server who breaks a law and we have no admin we show no remorse.
Me: Do you believe the actual Officers and OIT's treat people fairly?
Anonymous Carabinieri Officer: Well.. In my view, I think sometimes the Officer's ego gets the better hold of them, and they try being a dictator. -------------------- In conclusion, a staggering 65% of interviewees believe the Carabinieri mistreats civilians and visitors. We must not forget that not all Carabinieri mistreat visitors. A lot of them do treat them with respect and are polite, helpful, and do their job to the best of their ability.
What do you think? Are the Italians really being treated unfairly? Or are they bending their stories out of context to make the Carabinieri look bad?

| I think some Carabinieri mistreat visitors. That's why I'm leaving carabinieri. IT is corrupt, the minister is power hungry. |

| Personally, I don't have a problem with the Caras. I learned to get out of dodge. I usually stay away from the federal grounds and the ITAF/ Cara shops. I have no problem visiting the PD though. Suprisingly, there are actually next to no officers at the desks when it comes to the department. It's more a matter of avoiding the corruption, but that's probably the reason why I don't have a problem with it at all. |
