I will admit, I have no idea or concept of how difficult it would be to implement new materials. However, I do know that we have had the same materials for a while now and adding some more to the mix would certainly add some flavor and new variation to the atmospheres of player's games.
I will describe some interesting materials I think should be used and will include images of video games including mirror's edge, because the game is beautiful.
Soft Concrete: http://www.electricblueskies.com/portfolio/mirrors-edge-ebs/escape-route/ Look at the the sides of the concrete upon which the railing is fixed, above the pillars, bottom left, that is what I am talking about. Notice the slightly wet glisteny look.
Dirty / Industrial Concrete: http://www.electricblueskies.com/portfolio/mirrors-edge-ebs/forklift/ Look at the concrete next to the door. Notice the slightly grimey and scratched texture of the wall.
