>they hosting olympics and world cup >spends BILLIONS of dollars on stadiums n such >fails to realize their litteracy rate doesnt surpass 30% >fails to realize that half their country is starving
instead of focusing on health and education, brazil likes to build stadiums!!!

you cant pull out of the world cup.
i mean i understand they have a problem. but i was thinking that this was the solution to the problem. BUT then the problem got bigger and worse, and I mean the world cup venue is usually picked 10-12 years before so you can make stadiums. you cant pull out of the bid when you are already picked.
In conclusion, Brazil thought hosting Olympics and World Cup was the smart thing to do to save their country, then problem got bigger, cant pull out, dead in the water. |

@kap
all the money made in brazil goes to the government, sure street vendors and such will make a bit more money during those times, but eventually alot of it will goto the government.

| Hosting the Olympics is a toss up between making it or breaking it. What London did was they spend little money on certain venues, but failed to fill up the capacity on popular events at the Aquatics Centre. |

| Beijing didn't help the economy. They overspent the budget, and they aren't getting much additional revenue from venues. The Birds Nest is only the venue for the Supercoppa Itliana. A stadium that costs 400 Million to build (USD) is now only used for an Itlian tournament. |

and in addition to yonnds comment, London is really been the most successful out of the countrys that have hosted for awhile, they were smart and built small temporary stadiums that they packed and only invested in venues that they knew were going to be popular and would be sustainable for the next 30 years

"in case you haven't been paying attention in school, governments will do what they need to to stay in power"
You seriously need to pay more attention to world events, Brazil will only invest their money in Police to take gangs off the street TEMPORARILY and thats why they are in control. There have been riots in brazil for a very long time now, doctors are mad, teachers are mad and citizens are mad. When big events like the WC and Olympics happen, guess what, there will be alot of illegal substances going around, and guess where it comes from? the gangs. These gangs basically RUN brazil with the money they have, brazil government doesnt care about its people
