| I've seen some parents and they are crazy with videogames but they let their kids watch bad movies and they swear and smoke all the time. It just goes to show that some people who aren't raised around something are crazy with it. |

Sometimes parents feel that if there kid can do something in a video game there are willing to do it in the outside world.

| Because of the stereotype that they will "rot your brain" and such, which is totally untrue, because they can actually help. |

| There have been recent stories on the news, where a few weeks ago a boy killed his parents since they took his Xbox away. Sometimes games can affect kids more then anything else and parents have to be cautious. Mine are also. |

| @dark; That's probably because he had mental problems in the first place, it didn't really have anything to do with the games. |

| Your parents should check if your mature enough to handle the type of video games you play. Honestly, if they don't have the guts to say "No" they shouldn't be parents. |

@darkrange
video games didn't cause those, it was the guy himself who did them. they all have mental issues. video games are just the newest scapegoat. it used to be rock n roll, movies, tv, dungeons & dragons, etc. |

The actual effects of video games can be explained in two words: Cultivation theory. What cultivation theory states in essence is that media doesn't affect people's actions; thus, playing Grand Theft Auto won't make people go on shooting rampages. Instead, it affects people's perceptions of the world. Playing a violent game will lead one to believe that the world is a violent place.
Personally, this is why I'm fine with uber-violent games (as long as it's presented tastefully), but am against r4pe sims. |

| I think parents are strict on video games because they think that its a bad influnce on kids and teens.My mom hate it when Im asking for GTA 5,its because its violence,she says to the dude at game stop...um no no theres no violence in my house....so its violence.Also you wanna know something...I NEVER EVER PLAYED ALL OF GTA GAMES..I NEVER EVER PLAYED ANY OF THEM EVER AND AM SERIOUS.I did play Saints Row 3..but whatever its a better game than GTA. |

| Uh I am talking about parents who hate videogames but let them see violent movies and they swear and smoke thinking videogames is the only cause of violence and they won't act like them. |

Now I know how stupid it sounds when parents over-exaggerate about how video games are bad for you, but people who think they're GOOD for you are just speaking rubbish.
I'm not rotting my brain, but I'm not evolving or upgrading. |

| They aren't horrible parents, it depends on the child who is playing the game. I watch R-rated movies all the time and my parents don't let me play M-rated games. |

| If you know how to control yourself. Daily gaming isn't bad. If you can balance school, family, friends, activities and gaming all into a day you have a healthy life. Gaming is a release for most people. If I didn't have it I'd be less cheerful. But I don't play it ALL day like most people. I do have my days when I do though. But that's only normal. |

My thoughts exactly. The media have nothing better to do than blame it on the newest and most popular form of medium at the time. |
