For more information about the Avatar universe (wildlife, cultures, attires, etc.) please refer to the "Avatar Wiki".
---
Dating back to the dawn of time, the future has always contained riddles, mysteries, and change. But one aspect of life has always remained the same- the avatar is born to shield the world from danger and crisis.
Even that, though, has become contradictory.
Some two hundred years ago, a majestic and competent Air Nomad from the Eastern Air Temple named Kuna Omou was born to uphold the avatar cycle and guard the world from disaster and crisis. She overthrew tyrants; she ceased wars, both civil and worldwide; and she brought cities and individuals alike out of their dilemmas and struggles. The world praised her for her noble deeds, and all the while Kuna enjoyed her notoriety. But even superiority only lasts for so long.
Kuna was assassinated in her mid-thirties by a group of biased revolutionaries from the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation who resented Kuna simply because she was of Air Nomad descent. The revolutionaries perceived the airbenders as cowards, and thus resolved that they were unsuitable for the world. They also believed that no airbender was worthy of being the avatar. Plunged into an era of despair, the world grieved for their lost avatar. Decades passed before the next avatar, Herzio of the Northern Water Tribe, exposed himself to the world. Even still, the world longed for their past guardian and dignitary, Kuna.
Herzio soon perished at the hands of the Fire Nation, and the next avatar was born into the cycle. Mauki Kyoun was raised in the grand capital city of the Earth Kingdom, Koishi. He was mildly interested in bending during his childhood, though he practiced it all the same. It wasn't until he turned sixteen and learned that he was the avatar that he took a sudden interest in the art of bending.
Mauki trained with Master Kelou, an elderly waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe, for months. After mastering earthbending and waterbending, he was guided to the Fire Nation by Master Kelou and a troop of earthbenders to begin his firebending training, determined to master all four elements.
The spirit of Kuna wouldn't allow it, though. While residing in the Spirit World, a parallel plane of existance where past avatars dwell, the legendary airbender felt a stab of jealousy as she watched Mauki and noted his growing reputation. Unlike Herzio, Kuna could sense that this earthbender was going to succeed her and acquire her title as the most prominent avatar for generations.
Kuna did what few avatar spirits were willing to do- she gave up her immortality to walk among the living once more, but in a different form. Consequently, she was no longer capable of bending, but that didn't hinder her. Determined to displace Mauki and redeem her avatar state, she discovered a loophole in her abatement of bending.
Kuna manipulated the Spirit World and crafted a new form of bending- spiritbending, allowing her to absorb the energy of living entities in the mortal world. This required a great deal of energy, and her only source of this energy was the Spirit World. She unmindfully began to drain the Spirit World of its energy to grant herself the ability to bend once more, but on a larger scale.
Despite her shrewdness, Kuna was unaware of the expenses. Because both she and Mauki share a connection with the Spirit World, not only is the Spirit World diminishing, but they are dying as well. They both often feel weary and fatigued- they understand that much. All the same, Kuna was unwavering. She began to teach benders and non-benders alike a sub-skill of spiritbending called "formbending", which allows her students to change the form of an entity [i.e., water to ice, ice to gas]. Loyal to Kuna, they are doing her bidding and hunting for the avatar themselves.
Meanwhile, tensions were raised between the four nations as Mauki grew older. Rumors were exchanged between the nations, lies and slander that destroyed the peace and unity that bound the four nations of the world. Despite the hostility and deceptions, though, it will take the four elements acting as one to conquer Kuna. With Mauki at his weakest, benders from all four nations - the Fire Nation, the Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribes and the Air Temples - are called forth to battle Kuna in unison.
With so many barriers and so little time, these emerging heroes and saviors are faced with a challenge that will determine the fate of the avatar, the Spirit World - and the mortal world, no less. They are the Company of Last Hope.
๑Noteworthy Locations๑
*Please note that these are only major locations. You may create your own towns or villages if you so desire.
Koishi - Koishi is the capital city of the Earth Kingdom, as well as the most populated. Oddly enough, Koishi was constructed within a massive aged crater that philosophers suggest was first formed some two hundred thousand years ago. The founder of Koishi, Jonyi Ulta, was a retired military strategist who thought that building the city semi-buried in the ground would benefit them greatly. Distant threats would not easily distinguish them against the rugged terrain. She also figured that the earthbenders would feel more strongly connected to the earth and thus benefit them in battle. Koishi is ringed by a relatively high fortification that blends with the surrounding rocky, mountainous terrain to an extent. Oddly enough, the city is located around the edges of the crater, while the innermost areas are cultivated for agricultural purposes, with a watchtower located at the crater's center. Koishi is located in the western region of the Earth Kingdom, currently governed by King Hunsay Eko, or otherwise known simply as King Eko.
Under her rule, Jonyi had her troops construct a private tunnel system beneath the city of Koishi, spanning across the arid Shiyu Desert and ending just outside the boundaries of a minor Earth Kingdom town called Ateyo. These tunnels were built solely for retreats if one were to invade the city. Jonyi has never revealed the tunnels to the general public, and she has enforced that any consecutive leaders remain silent about them. She feared that the tunnels would be taken advantage of by trespassers, rivals and fugitives alike; for this reason, she constructed various traps within the tunnels, all designed to trap a victim, rather than kill them.
Changyi - Changyi is a relatively small Fire Nation city in comparison to some, though it's one of the most economically stable. Built at the base of an active volcano called Kazau, the citizens of Changyi regularly dig trenches to carry the flow of lava into the city's forges when Kazau erupts. The blacksmiths use this lava to forge weaponry and armour for the Fire Nation military. Settled on the coast of the Nensho Sea, Changyi has a cool climate, despite its location. Several strongholds made of large slabs of stone have been built above the city to preserve it from violent eruptions that could obliterate Changyi and all of its residents. The strongholds curve around the city, creating a semi-circular pattern. Changyi owns a port on the coast of Nensho to import and export goods, and offer transportation to Fire Nation citizens. The buildings are constructed of obsidian to provide support against ash and debris from eruptions.
Nanchou - Nanchou is a small Earth Kingdom mining town built at the bottom of the mountains north of Koishi. The miners are generally criminals working to pay off their crimes or volunteers, who are under constant supervision by earthbender troops. Because it is built near a river, quite a few people have voluntarily moved to Nanchou from Koishi to help support their large kingdom's demand for resources. Nanchou's only real purpose is to gather iron and copper and exported to Koishi, and miners cannot risk earthbending, in fear of breaking ore or caving in the tunnel. The town is constructed from clay material and dried straw, seeing that the town cannot afford luxuries.
Most mining is done in the smaller mountains. An emergency room was built for the residents in one of the tunnels they dug and is mostly constructed from stone. However, food and other necessities have been stockpiled inside. In the event of an emergency, the bender guards will evacuate the citizens to the cave and seal off the entrance. Several stations for soldiers are built on the southern edge of Nanchou. No one holds power, but there is a small "Miners Union" that makes decisions about resources. The river due east of town provides food and clean water via filtering methods. It also serves as a natural barrier against predators and rivals. Meat is often preserved in a cool cave near the river.
Linkuri- Linkuri is the most popular water tribe in the North Pole. Built on the edge of a glacier overlooking the Nensho Sea, Linkuri has solid defenses against predators. Linkuri has a strong league of spearmen and bowmen. Together with their position above the sea and sharp accuracy, the Linkuri tribe has the upper advantage against the naval forces of any rival nation- or tribe, for that matter. The majority of the tribespeople reside at the edge of the glacier. Chief Gunho Lei dwells further inland, although he will willingly give his life for the sake of his tribe's lives at any given moment, as it is an oath taken by any succeeding leader of Linkuri to put their life before others'. The houses and local buildings are all constructed of ice in the shape of domes. Linkuri tribespeople use animal hides to clothe themselves, as well as provide blankets and wraps for their young. The artistic minds will use these animal hides to provide decorative quilts and illustrations for their walls. The craftsmanship of the Linkuri people is so unique that their economy is mostly built on their novelties that they sell to neighbor tribes.
Linkuri has a small military force, consisting of only bowmen, swordmen, and spearmen. While they are not professionally trained, they are all capable fighters and guardians, and for years they have protected the tribe against rival tribes. A minority of them are also waterbenders, and they are held in high regards by the tribespeople.
Dansei - Dansei is the capital of the Fire Nation, a vast commune of cities all infusing together to create such a place. The capital rests upon a mountainous island four hundred and sixteen miles off the coast of Changyi city. The valleys, and plains of the island are charred black and grey with ash and magma from Ootoko, the large volcano that rests in the center of the mainland. Dansei is built behind a smaller mountain, strategically placed there to keep most of the ash and magma from trailing over the city. The Kazan guild is a special group of six members who are employed under Emperor Gin-hi. The guild members each have mastered Ash bending, Lava bending, and Fire bending, which they use to keep ash storms, lava rivers, and wild fires out of reach from the city.
In the center of the city is a large tower that rises up. The tower was never given a specific name, but over time the people came to call it Kuroi Te. Inside the tower is a set of stairs that doesn't go up, but goes down. The cavern two miles below the cities was there originally when the Fire Nation settled on the land. The Emperor who found it, Emperor Kaminari Ushi planned a cover-up and claimed that his slave workers mined out the entire cavern in his name. Then it's use began predictable, The Emperor decreed that his kingdom would be founded in the caverns depths. To protect the emperor, the Fire Nation made it livable by laying dirt foundation while planting crops, trees, and grasses. At the top of the cavern is a blinding ball of light, that is kept burning by ten powerful Fire Benders constantly, these Fire Benders were most likely criminals and were forced this as there punishment for life. The Nise no Taiyo, or Fake sun, illuminates the entire cavern creating an organic day. The thick stone walls of the cavern have several holes in them, they are used as a dam system to pour vast quantities of water into the realm keeping the man-made rivers and lakes flowing and thriving. Twelve of these mile by mile superholes have been constructed and are in use. On each of the cavern walls, North, East, South, and West.
Within the vast plains supposedly created a millenia ago by slaves and workers, there is a large training facility that claims three whole miles of the cavern. Here is where the Yogan Inoshishi, or Lava Boars, referring to the grand army of the Emperor, undergo several years of harsh training and excercises to be the best of the best in combat, bending, and strategy. Smack dab in the center of the place is a towering kingdom, three miles tall and four miles wide. Inside lives tens of thousands of residents who've pledge their lives to the Emperor of the Fire Nation. Running through the bustline center of the smoke filled kingdom is the Ran'ningu river, which cleans and thirsts the quench of the poor and homeless. Filteration systems are unneeded, seeing as the cavern produces its own clouds, and rainfall.
The Air Temples - The four air temples are located in each of their respective cardinal direction [i.e., the Northern Air Temple is located in the north; the Southern Air Temple is located in the south; et cetera]. The four temples are all relatively similar, although the Eastern and Western Air Temples house only females, while the Northern and Southern Air Temples house males. The temples are commonly quiet and reserved, as the temples are normally occupied by the young and the elderly, seeing that the airbenders are Air Nomads and are frequently exploring the world on their sky bison (creatures that are common in the air temples, alongside winged lemurs). While the temples all share a resemblance, the Western Air Temple is an exception; this tbackward emple was built on the bottom of a cliffside, shielded from the eye of a passerby. While the temples were constructed upside down, the floors of the buildings were built right-side up. There are also several ledges connected by bridges.
Iagua - Iagua is the prominent water tribe of the South Pole. It's located far inland, to ensure the safety of their people. There is, however, a canal that was forged by the Senkotas (a group of specially trained waterbenders who've pledged to protect Iagua with their lives) that weaves its way through the frozen terrain to the city. Outposts are situated along either side of the canal, where a Senkota warrior is typically stationed. The city itself is ringed with a fortification crafted from ice. Senkota warriors are often stationed on this wall, as well. The canal is connected to the inner-city canals. The entry gate will lower into the canal, and thus allowing passage for boats and vessels. The buildings are constructed of ice, as you might expect. However, Chief Hinku wanted to abstain from the common spheric design; he had many of the buildings resemble Greek temples. The Chief's temple is located at the core of the city. Iagua builds its economy off of its fishing industry.
Shen-Hou - Shen-Hou is a relatively small sandbending tribe located in the Hurun Desert (which is southeast of Koishi). The buildings are constructed of condensed sand, and resemble the design of a tepee. The disorganization of the village is common for sandbender tribes. Shen-Hou is ringed by a barrier that is, too, made of condensed sand. Wooden spires protrude from the fortification to keep animals out. Any animals that are caught on the spires are normally butchered and cooked over a fire, benefiting the tribe tremendously. The chief of the tribe, Chief Dailou, resides in a hut twice the size of the others. A small enclosure is located just outside the entrance of Shen-Hou, where the tribespeople keep their sand-sailers (crafts of wood with two runners that slide across the sand, and a sail used to propel the craft via sandbending).
๑The Bending Arts๑
*The term 'jing' refers to the options one may choose from within battle. In most cases, each type of bender has a different response, tactic or strategy in battle. The jings are described in the bending descriptions.
*Not everyone is born as a bender in the nations. The Air Nomads, however, are an exception; most of the Air Nomads are born with airbending abilities.
Waterbending - Water is the element of change. The first waterbenders learned to bend the water by watching the moon and its effects on the tides. Waterbending allows benders to manipulate water and various liquids. This form of bending is enhanced during a full moon. Waterbenders exercise between positive (advancing and attacking) jing and negative (retreating and eluding) jing. Seeing as waterbending energy is drawn from the moon, the ability is disabled during a lunar eclipse.
Sub-skills:
• Bloodbending - Bloodbending is a sub-skill of waterbending that allows waterbenders to bend, not necessarily blood, but the fluids in the human body.
• Plantbending - Plantbending is a technique that allows waterbenders to bend highly water-saturated plants to their advatange.
• Healing - Some waterbenders are capable of redirecting energy paths throughout the body, and thus allowing them to heal an ill or wounded body.
• Condensation - Skilled waterbenders can condense clouds and invisible water vapor into a source of water. Because water in the atmosphere is so minimal, it's not a reliable technique during battle, with the exception of having no alternative source of water.
• Sweat manipulation - Likewise, if a waterbender is near no other source of water, they can resourcefully bend their own sweat and use it against an opponent.
Earthbending - Earth is the element of substance. Most earthbenders possess common traits- persistent, strong, enduring. The first earthbenders learned from the badgermoles. Earthbending allows benders to manipulate the earth. Earthbenders excerise neutral jing, in which case they endure and absorb the opponent's attacks, as opposed to fleeing or fighting, and wait for the right moment to strike.
• Metalbending - Metalbending is a rare ability to manipulate the small amount of earth still remaining in metal material.
• Seismic Sense - Seismic sense is the ability to sense vibrations throughout the ground and form a mental image of one's surroundings.
• Sandbending - Sandbending is the ability to manipulate sand, a looser form of earth. It's a difficult skill to learn by average earthbenders.
Firebending - Fire is the element of power. The first firebenders watched and imitated the dragons, and eventually mastered the pyrokinetic ability. Firebenders draw their energy from the sun. Firebenders are capable of manipulating heat and fire. They exercise positive jing (advancing and attacking). Firebending is weakened during a solar eclipse, when the moon covers the sun.
Sub-skills:
• Lightningbending - Lightningbending is a sub-skill of Firebending, allowing the bender to harness the power of lightning and the ability to redirect it.
• Magmabending/Lavabending - Some firebenders are capable of controlling super-heated rock known as magma, or lava to their advantage.
Airbending - Air is the element of freedom. The first airbenders learned from the sky bison, who were capable of flight and aerokynesis. Most air nomads are airbenders, as they are a very spiritual group of people who seek spiritual guidance and enlightenment. Airbenders exercise negative jing (retreating and evading).
Sub-skills:
• Soundbending - Some airbenders are capable of generating amplified sound waves with the help of airbending, and thus sending sounds long distances.
*Spiritbending - Spiritbending is a dangerous bending art that can only be practiced by those who share a strong connection with the Spirit World and are technically a part of it. In this case, it's Kuna, a previous avatar who initially discovered this immoral art. Spiritbending allows Kuna to absorb one's energy, or life source. While this should strengthen and sustain her, because she's drawing the Spirit World to practice this form of bending, it's draining her much more quickly. As the Spirit World fades and diminishes, Kuna is slowly dying (as well as Mauki). Any mortal who has little connection with the Spirit World would die in an instant from attempting this.
Sub-Skills:
• Formbending - Formbending is an alternate style of spiritbending that does not require as much energy from the Spirit World. Formbending is practiced by a select few benders and non-benders; these formbenders are taught to connect with the Spirit World and draw energy from its atmosphere. Formbending allows a bender to change the form of an entity [i.e., water to ice, ice to gas]. While some of this can be accomplished by average benders, formbenders don't require the chi (the energy in the human body that serves as the root of bending) that benders are born with; thus, they can change an array of entities. |

(@Flawless- Sorry, but I don't know how to narrow it down. o.e The locations aren't mandatory to read if you want to make your own town/village. If you already know about the different styles of bending, then that sub-section isn't mandatory to read either. The plot, however, has a lot of essential information.
@Alpha- Haha, yeah. I've been craving something Avatar-related for a while since I just re-watched the series. I'm working on a fanfiction on the wiki, too.) |

(Flawless- A few things. Firstly, this is based off of the show, which is oriented around Asian culture. So, the name isn't exactly appropriate for the RP. Secondly, the appearance is a bit bland. Thirdly, if you're a sandbender, you're going to want to wear the appropriate attire. This is one of those cases where you should use the Avatar wiki for reference. Fourthly, I would appreciate a biography. It'll fill in those gaps in your character.
And, for future reference, when I ask for the bending style, it has to be water, fire, earth or air. Sandbending, bloodbending, metalbending... these are all sub-skills. In other words, they're are special techniques and styles for one of the four forms of bending. In your case, though, it's alright, since sandbending is, more or less, it's own form.) |

(Are we all starting in the Earth Kingdom or something? Takes a long time to traverse the world.)
Name: Keroe Raehn Age: 21 Gender: Male Personality: Keroe never feels obliged to comfort or very much be social to any newcomers. Those that personally know Keroe, though, can say he is less tense than he is to strangers. Keroe normal demeanor is usually a stoic profile, even in a battle situation. Appearance: Keroe's skin leans towards a dark tanned side, similar to the denizens of the Water Tribes. His face harbors sky-blue eyes, and a small mane of untamed hair collapsing, just above his chin-level. Despite being tall, he poses no intimidation from his skinny profile. He dons sky-blue Water Tribe robes, one of his hands covered in a navy-blue skin-tight glove, starting from his elbow. He wears a navy-blue satchel, a belt going from his shoulder to waist, with a rectangular bag suspended at his side, with a small bag of water inside. He wears slightly baggy, navy-blue pants, above high, light brown boots with white fur at the top of the boots to keep his legs warm. Nation: Water Tribes Bending: Water Biography: Keroe was born in the unforgiving tundra that was the domain of the Water Tribes. Despite named so for their waterbenders, the advent of a competent waterbender was still rare among his small tribe. Raised to hunt and fight in the conditions of a non-bender by his father, an easily angered man. Keroe's talent for waterbending was repressed until a very late age, sometime around 16. The rarity of the waterbenders in his village made it worst. Descending from a lineage of non-benders, his father attempted to suppress his abilities, while also convinced he was not his son as Keroe had demonstrated, as he says, 'a coward's resort of playing with water.‘ Keroe endured a few more years, practicing the art of waterbending, while he and his father's relationship slowly divided. In the coming years, Keroe would have departed for the Earth Kingdom, to detach from his father's expectations. A nomad, he plans to venture the Earth Kingdom to learn more about the bending arts. Personality: He is easily angered by thieves and people who take very long; he is quite impatient but he is smart overall. He is a bit jealous of his brothers and sisters due to his lacking in bending abilities but he is them most wealthy of all of them so he is not very upset at this fact.
Appearance: A taller and thicker man with a fairly strong and muscular body. He has cold light brown eyes that are squinted at most times. He has a bit of stubble on his shin and lip and looks as if it may become a beard at any moment. He has a large nose and ruffled brown hair like his brother.
He wears a simple green shirt an brown pants along with sandals.
Nation: Earth Kingdom
Bending: None.
Biography: Was raised in the small village of Orioa deep in the desert on the edge of the Earth Kingdom with his many sibling and mother and father. He is third oldest and left home first. He quickly settled in Koishi and made his antique shop with the little money he was given by his father upon leaving. Soon after his younger brother came to Koishi looking for employment and since then he has not been easy on Tero.
He is kind of a harsh when he is angry and he has a pet Hog Monkey; which are very hard to train. Despite his Hog Monkey not being fully trained he can often sooth him with Leechi nuts; or spray his with water when he misbehaves.
Other: Hog Monkey named Ginger.
(I am going to use this character much less than Tero; but he is part of the main story so...) |
