[1] Prologue: Out of Captivity

The echo of Rhodok Boots signalled an end to the daily torture as the executioner left you in dark silence. The pain of purple bruises and cuts sucked your body of all will to move or breath. Rough stone sent needles into your back as the hours passed.

Will you get up?

You don't know how you manage it, but after all the months of beatings, near dismemberment, water torture, even r.ape, you manage to pull yourself up against the wall of your cell. Flea-ridden hay strewn with feces rustles as you get up and lay your back against cool green-cellar moss growing through ancient brick.

A man in the shadows chuckles.

"Why are you chuckling?"

After such a long time in silence, your voice feels almost alien as it shrinks down the hall-- hoarse, awkward. A man in a leather jherkin and feathered beret of a Rhodok spearman answers you as he stalks out of the shadows with a hooked pike at his shoulder. You've seen him with the other guards of the garrison; Alonzo, they call him.

"Because you still hold hope that the Swadian scum you call your liege lords will rescue you."

"Just wait.." You reply.

"Your ignorance will be the end of you, Swadian," Alonzo replied with a contemptuous sneer. Leaning on the pommel of his spear, he examined you like a piece of trash waiting to be thrown out into the gutter. "It's been 6 months, yet you've still held hope that your arrogant, imperialistic King Harlaus still has forces to spare. For all I know, the Nords could be raiding Praven as we speak."

"Yet you could have joined us," he said. "But you didn't. You joined them."

Alonzo began to walk away.

Many years ago, central Calradia was claimed by the Swadian lords. They controlled the central west coast of the continent, all the way from the rocky shelf of the Nordlands to the highland peaks of the hill tribes. Threatened by the Sarranid horse tamers of the south east and the Nordmen and the Vaegirs of the North, the high lords and forest kings of the Swadian plains decided to unite under one banner-- the Kingdom of Swadia.

But alas, when the plains became one, the hills did not. Threatened by the thought of the feudalistic ways of the Swadians, the highland merchants of the Rhodoks rebelled, many warriors and farmers joining the cause. After many years of bloody fighting and crusades, the Swadians left the battered Rhodoks to fend for themselves, who in turn gathered together into free trading cities known as the Rhodok Republic.

Wait... Did that shadow just move?

Using the last of the strength in the cut ruin that used to be your arms, you drag yourself closer to the rusty bars of the jail door. Aged musk fills your nose, but you ignore that for a more important matter at hand.

Over there. The flicker of the lamp gave it away. A cloaked figure, heading for Alonzo down the hall.

In an act of revenge, you decide to watch in morbid curiosity; your body hurt enough as it is and you didn't want to risk grabbing the mysterious figure's attention.

The slump body of Alonzo is dragged across the lamplight as the cloaked figure places it into the shadows and takes something clanking from his belt. The figure turns, beginning to walk towards you in silence. Graceful steps don't make more than a slight sound on the hollow stone. The reflection of aged leather from the cloaked infiltrator's slim belt gives the assumption of a blade in its scabbard.

You feel slightly alarmed.

"Don't be afraid, loyal captive." The feminine voice is both calming and surprising. There weren't many ladyblades in Calradia--certainly not here. Despite the mystery surrounding your rescuer, she fetches out the item she took from Alonzo's belt-- a loop of keys which she tosses to you.

"I'm not good with locks. You must've seen the key a thousand times with how long I've been told you've been held here."

You frantically recall the times the bastard jailers tantalized you with the key to your bars

"Ah yes! This exact key with the little engraving in it!" You say anxiously, licking your lips at the proposal of freedom.

The door slowly grows loose as you turn the key, pushing it open with a shove and falling at your rescuer's feet.

Dragging yourself forwards, you wrap your arms around the rescuer's feet.

"Thank you, thank you!" You repeat in effusive praise. "Wait, you are 'ere to save me, right?"

"That would be right, good ser. I'm Tamra of the Freelancers."

Helping you to your feet, Tamra lets you lean against the far wall as she fetches and offers you a sheathed clamshell dagger from her waist.

[1.1] Prologue Part 2: Freefall

After a few moments, Tamra's muffled voice comes from the outside world.

"Alright, you can lift up the front of the tarp. Welcome to the world--hope you'll enjoy it less we have looters about."

Lifting up the tarp, you poke your head out from the cart-bed to feel a chilly wind harassing your face-- it felt like freedom.

"Accursed looters," You say, feeling the hatred in your own voice. "My father and I always had to chase them around our land. They bothered the local farmers to no end."

As the cart pulls around the switchback down the rocky shelf, something is stirring in the castle keep above. A bugle call rings through the air; frantic shouts sound from the walls as a commotion is made around the courtyard!

"..traitors... what?"

"Escape!... Swadian scum!"

"My cheese... Where is the guard on duty?"

Tamra looks directly up at the stone walls above you, taking a seat on the cart and urging the mule to go faster.

"Shieit... discovered the guard," she says, again as if she were talking to herself. Looking at you, she pulls two plain round shields from beneath the seat.

"Good thing I stowed this beforehand..." strapping the shield onto her left forearm, she tosses the other shield to you.

The cart lurches once again as it goes over a bump, and the shield strikes you in the shoulder before striking the cart-bed. A large crack in the center has nearly split the shield in two, now barely serviceable as you manage to strap it on your battered arms. Tamra gives you a disappointed glance, as if to say "it's your funeral." She doesn't voice anything though, too busy with strapping some wooden boards to the mule.

The cart approaches another switchback. More commotion in the castle.

Seventy-five feet above on the granite walls of the Rhodoks, 120 quarrels bristled from ever crenelation, aimed down at the shrinking figure of a cart, a mule, and two silhouette figures. A cry rang out.

"Fire at will!"

And just like that, those 120 quarrels were in flight.

Clunk, whzz--whzz whzz whzz--clunk clunk clunk.

Shriveled up behind your shield, you watched in terror as steel-headed shafts stuck to the right side of the cart and protected donkey like a pincushion. Your breath catches in your throat as you nearly stumble backwards, shock running up your arm. A steel head inches from your face, stopped by only a inch of wood.

Whzz whzz--clunk clunk clunk clunk.

Falling backwards into the cart tarp, you can hear the donkey bray in agony as it stumbles over the slope, a quarrel protruding out its side. The cart lurches down front first after the reined donkey, and Tamra stumbles, hanging onto the tarp as she hangs above open air. Up at the back of the cart, you stare, feeling dizzy as the green abyss of the treeline waits ominously a hundred feet down.

CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK--squueeek

Lances of death from the Rhodoks still seem to pound the bottom of the hanging cart, trying to tip it off balance as it slowly angles downslope. Turning pale, Tamra looks down, then back at you.

Looking indecisive at Tamra, she continues to gaze at you in fear.

"Don't come for me--we'll all die!"

Taking a deep breath, you lunge for her arm.

CREEEEAKK WHAM

Freefall.

[1.2] Introduction: Gazing in the Water

Struggling to get up, you sling the arm of the mo.aaning freelancer around your shoulder and help her to the stream. Despite the splint you had fixed on her mangled left leg, the calve still twists crookedly across a crack in the middle. You look away, concentrating on the stream twisting through the forest floor.

Behind you the creak of a broken cart axle still squeals in the breeze, the scent of flies continuously reminding you of the donkey that hung from a low tree branch, body twisted in three places; stomach burst open from the fall down, entrails hanging limply in the wind. You try not to empty your stomach upon finally reaching the stream. Even here, stray boards and shreds of dried meat from the cart and its cargo are spread out on the ground.

As you set her down, Tamra's eyes flutter open with a choked breath. She seems dazed, looking down at her shattered leg. You ignore her for a moment, cupping your bruised hands into the stream and raising it your lips. Cold mountain water runs down your dry throat and your reflection ripples against the running water.

Who are you?

(This is the part of appearance and biography. Third or first person, I don't care.)

I see my reflection, I look like a man with Olive skin, mid-length straight black hair. I have rather large green eyes and I am no taller or shorter than average. I am slightly more pudgy then others, but not enough to be a disadvatange. My shoulders are broad, but the rest of my body isnt.

Seeing this, I remember my past.

I was born to a noble, but I fled, as the city was seiged and destroyed.
For awhile,I lived a nomadic life, dearly missing my old luxurious.
I had several encounters with bandits, and most of them led to diplomacy rather than violence. Although, I was responsible for my brothers death. It was a rainy night and I held a bow and arrow. Me and him shared a farm house, and were paranoid as they raided it every so often. Today was one of those days, and I held my bow and arrow out the barn door. I was covering my brother, as he went to encounter the bandits, as they were fighting, I let off arrow. I watched it in slow motion as it veered off target, and plunged into my brothers back, killing him. I never forgave myself.

Hah. Who am I? That bump on the head must have been harder than I thought. But I know who I am.

My name is Jarod Haringoth. My father is Count Haringoth of Swadia, vassal to King Harlaus. I look in the water now to see my face. It is the same as I last saw it, though hollow-cheeked and bruised. I have hair similar to my father, close-cropped and brown, but that's where the similarities stop. I have a severe, angular face and deep-set brown eyes. I'm a bit short at 5'7", but does that really matter? I was in training to become a cavalry commander and Knight of Swadia. Was. At the battle in the mountain pass outside of Yalen, I was one of the prisoners they took. They treated me like an animal, the bastards! I intend to raise an army in the name of revenge.

My name you ask? I am the great warrior prince Maj'gar Vijn. I am a fighter of great strength I might add, and have studied the ways of the [Insert Nord equivilent of Knight, or other elite soldier cause yolo] since I was a mere tot.

I stand a good 7 and a half feet I'd say, and a good 300 pounds, so I certainly have weight and side advantage. My blond hair is flowed back, and has reached my shoulders now, since my time in the funhouse. I have a straggly beard, and pale white skin [I assume blond hair is common with Nordmen? And pale skin, but it'd be pale anyway from being in da jail ftb].

I would like to say I'm built like an Ox or Bear, so I will. I like to consider myself a physical wonder, but that's open to discussion. I have ice blue eyes, and masculine features.

If you want to know who my family are, you'll have to wait to find out.

Getting up from the stream after tending yourself, you follow through with a grunt as a spike of pain runs across your lower ribs. Trying to resist the hurting sensation, you manage a slight slump as Tamra, the freelancer, wakes up from unconsciousness. She goes to the stream for a drink, then looks up at you.

"Uh... All respect sir, but I never noticed you were that tall."

The Kingdom of Vaegirs is a faction in the Mount&Blade series ruled by King Yaroglek. The Vaegirs possess arguably the finest foot archers in the game and also include several tiers of reasonably good infantry and heavy cavalry. Vaegir troops prefer using two-handed weapons for an offensive advantage against their foes and live in the mountainous and snowy north-eastern boundaries of the map. The claimant to the throne is Prince Valdym the Bastard.

Vaegir lords are called boyars.

Vaegirs are the second oldest faction after Swadia. This faction has been in the game since version 0.202.

_____

The Kingdom of Swadia is ruled by King Harlaus, and the claimant to the throne is Lady Isolla of Suno.

In Mount&Blade: Warband, unlike in the original Mount&Blade, the Swadian lords are called counts.

Swadia is the oldest faction in the game, it has been around since version 0.202.

As a starting point the Kingdom of Swadia is profitable as it is close to all of the other factions. This means that you can easily venture into any other nation and buy Goods, then return and sell them in any Swadian town. The downside of starting in Swadia is that it has no specially priced goods of its own.

The Swadian troop tree is very balanced, handling everything from swordsmen to crossbowmen. They house a good variety of cavalry and archers.

____

The Kingdom of Nords is one of the Factions within the Mount&Blade series. According to Nord hero Matheld, Nord people are from a place called "Nordland". Nordland is said to be far north of Calradia, over the sea, and is also the home of the Sea Raiders as well.

The monarch of the Kingdom of Nords is King Ragnar and the claimant is Lethwin Far-Seeker.

In Mount&Blade: Warband, unlike in the original Mount&Blade, the Nord lords are called Jarls.

The Nords have a very strong and powerful amount of throwers, skirmishers, swordsmen and two-handed berserkers. What they lack in calvary power they excel in iron.

I'm well, a boy.. Oh, you mean detail? Well, shall we begin?

I have a striking 6'0 height, very, let's say uncommon, shall we? My eyes are of the green heritage from the 3rd heir 'Chaon-Din Det' for my hair, a small cut by a dashing rogue blade, my voice still mumbles to it really, I just hated the feeling of my long, luscious black hair, turning into a short, simply cut piece of fur. Going to mid-ear in strange triangle shapes. My set of dyed black leather, going to my waist and strapped by a strange white piece of string and leathers, this was from my 5th birthday, a small belt, I don't know it's meaning, I just loved it, like a brother. My pants are cut, rampaged by a pack of wolves did it good, only thing it can't exactly survive. The boots are just a pair of black, ripped and stained by the cold foods of the Autumn nights. My toes showed a dashing look, yeah, the wolves weren't done yet when I growled, grasping a small piece of pork, no. Just more anger, more strikings..

I'm just a small, trained rogue, dreaming for the hopes of a Paladin rank, my wieldings of those two-handed cylinder swords (hammers) are just rubbish, so my dreams are far more then crushed, close to impossible.

Through the fine leather of a Khergit Tanner and a dashing appearance comes a figure starting to melt like butter in the hot sun.

You've just gotten out of prison. Deal with it.

Too OP for being beating in a cell for 6 months. Too DnD for the Mount and Blade World. There are no Paladins or Rogues.

In short:
Archers, Swordsmen, Long-blades, Calvary, and Berserkers.

[Perhaps you should research M&B and find out.

But to explain it simply, M&B is a series of tactical medieval horseback warfare games. The series is a realistic medieval fantasy, one of the only differences being that in vanilla and Warband, your are in the fictional land of Calradia. No magic, none of that.]
