Recently i have been saving money for my pc build. NOTE: pretty much only computer geeks like me will understand this. Parts: psu - rosewill 850w cpu - AMD vishera 8350 (runs at 4.0ghz) motherboard - gigabyte 990fx gpu - gtx 660ti superclocked ram - 8gb of viper ram hard drive - two 500gb barracuda hard drive running RAID 0 then just standard blue ray drive and a really cool case, full tower
Cost me $1400 for the whole thing (not including monitor) Any questions or comments? |

Just because someone is in disagreement with you doesn't make them incompetent or lower than you.
Also, that's his signature. :X I know, I did it before too. |

As for your build, two 500 GB hard-drives and Blu-ray?! A little over-kill if you ask me. But I bet it'll run everything you need to run for years. Smoothly, too!
I would try looking for cheaper prices on that stuff, $1,400 is pricey. :o |

@wolverine I like intel, and i think they have better processors than AMD, but i think intel is overpriced so i guess im just kind of boycotting them? haha. And who did you buy you 660 from? evga, msi, asus?
@Roblo Okay i didnt know that was his sig. And $1400 for this whole thing is cheaper than buying it for 2000 pre built. This is a top tier computer that will dominate anything thrown at it. Im 16, i have a job and i can afford it. |

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/14uAN - Similar parts for a little more than half the price.
The build is only going to draw ~400W, so 500 should be fine for you.
HD 7870 is at around the same level as the 660 Ti, and is a lot cheaper and can handle higher resolutions.
Just stick with a single 1TB instead of two 500GBs in RAID.
I didn't include a BluRay drive however. You can go buy one in the future.

7870 XT is only around $40 more, so it's his choice.
Both cards will do fine with whatever he's playing (unless if it's crysis 3 ultra 8xAA @ 1200p or something ridiculous).

| Well its 2 500gb hard drives running RAID 0 in the bios. Its speeds it up SO MUCH and only costs about 120. As for the graphics card: the 660ti is SLI compatable. The HD 7870 is not. And the thing is, I won't have to upgrade this thing anytime within 2-3 years. Its a top of the line pc that is pretty pricey, but also amazing. The only reason i would get the 7870 is because saphire always throws in like 4 games with their products. |

AMD cards don't even do SLI, they do CrossfireX lol.
7870 or 7870 XT are both better choices. Go for the XT if you aren't going to windows like Opera advises. If you want to spend a bit more get both.
I've never had any experience with RAID but I hear it is less stable than a single HDD; excuse me if I'm wrong. You'll be trading stability for r/w speeds.
And don't worry; the build will last you a long time.

@Boost I was talking about the gpu being SLI compatable... lol its not an AMD card. Its MSI. And AMD doesnt have any NVIDIA gpu's.
And I will be running windows, so i'm just gonna stick with the video card that i have picked out. it comes with a free game too. like metro last light or something?
And I know this pc will last a while! Thanks for the input! |
