China's growth is slowing down. They have been growing at huge rates inrecent years but this is simply not sustainable and with China's 1 child policy their labour force is shrinking. As Chinese growth shrinks, China's economy will go down hill.
When China starts facing financial difficulties, it's going to recall it's debts.
When that happens, goodbye US economy. |

| Its not as if the US is going to completely pay all their debt off if China calls it in. They"ll simply ignore the request and continue paying it gradually. Let China try and invade the US. See how much backing the UN will give that. |

@ igoingtowin,
China is an oppressed state, Chinese Unions will not really have so much power, and even if they do countries like India etc. will just fill the gap, the US wont be able to compete in low skilled areas such as manufacturing unless the US population accepts MUCH lower wages, which would actually harm the US econony as well as reducing your standard of life. |

@ The person who took the UN seriously.
I lold.
No country really cares what the UN says. The UN said the US invasion of Iraq was illegal (which it was), look how much the US cared.
China is very wealthy, and getting wealthier all the time. If China wanted to swap production from goods to be exported to military goods then it could easily, and produce military equiptment much faster than the US.

@Psp
Taking the UN seriously isn't I meant. If China did want to invade the US, I ask three questions.
1) Where will China get all the fuel to transport their troops across the Pacific? 2) How will China overcome the NATO nations? 3) Would other countries support the invasion? Are other countries more afraid of going against the US or going against China? |

| War with US would hurt chinas economy due to American imports are primarily from china. The Chinese and US trade is vital to china. So a war would not happen |

| The Chinese economic expansion is/was very similar to Japan's explosive growth in the late twentieth century. Assuming the patterns of similarity continue, you can expect the Chinese economy to drop massively within the next decade or so. They'll recall debts, and the US economy will slump, causing a domino effect that may or may not cause another depression. |

You're all asking the wrong questions.
War isn't ever going to happen considering how close the two countries are economically. Plus, the US economy is dependent on the imports of countries like China, however capable of sustaining itself given use of the workforce which isn't used to it's fullest extent.
Plus, US corporations are what manufacture in China for the most part, hence we're exporting to ourselves using cheap labor. |

@iroc
Plenty of Europeans thought war had become impossible in the early twentieth century. That's irrelevant, and war is always a possibility. On the subject of your other points, I totally agree. |

@Antecursor:
Don't bring history into this, as it's irrelevant given the current economical situation. Countries dependent on each-other aren't going to blow each-other up. |
